I have been saying this for months but now I am going to try to get serious about it. My daughter's wedding is in 6 weeks and I haven't stuck to my healthy eating and exercising very well.
I haven't had a pop for 6 days, whereas I usually drank about 5 a week. Now I am going to try to cut back if not cut out the sweet snacks. I am a chocolate nut so that may be a difficult task. I bought some fruit and yogurt to help replace the sweets.

Be careful with the yogurt. Most of the flavored stuff is packed full of sugar. What is your plan for eating? To avoid refined sugar, you pretty much have to cook from scratch.

Good job, keep it up! Karma to you. I cut sodas cold turkey too, and I didn't experience any bad caffeine headaches (I think some people-but not all-use that as an excuse to keep from trying). I also have a sweet tooth, but I'm not anal about depriving myself. I just try to keep everything in moderation, and I find that works pretty well for me. Good luck!

Skip the yogurt and try greek yogurt instead. What I do is, buy big container of plain Greek yogurt and then add my own fruit to it like blueberries and strawberries.
You can also make some awesome veggie dips out of plain greek yogurt.

Today I bought a small container of greek yogurt. It is strawberry so I don't know how much added sugar it has but there wasn't any plain. I figured I might try fruit and cheese sticks for snacks and chicken or fish and veggies for lunch and supper. I eat plain oatmeal every morning and if I don't get up early enough I just have a bowl of bran flakes or cheerios. I have all natural fruit strips so I need to see if they have added sugar in them.

Stick with it!!! Those kinds of changes are the ones that pay off big for me. I cut cream out of my coffee and lost 4 lbs in about 2 weeks.

There's something weird about refined sugar- the more you eat, the more you want. I try to stay away from it completely.
One thought on chocolate: dark chocolate is supposed to have health benefits. I have a couple of squares every day (this is the 70-80% cacao variety, not a Hershey's dark chocolate bar). The better brands have more cacao and are less sugary. I don't even like the Hershey type anymore- quality is better than quantity. Two squares do not have a lot of calories.
As for yogurt, I agree with indebt. I buy plain Greek yogurt and put honey in mine. I looked at the label of one brand of Greek yogurt with honey and it included fructose. Just get the plan stuff so you know exactly what you're getting.
Read labels carefully. So many things have sugar and, worse, high-fructose corn syrup. Even canned tomato soup and barbecue sauce have HCFS. I know I don't avoid it entirely but every bit you can cut back helps. And be careful of "reduced suagr" products- most of them have added artificial sweeteners. I drink Diet Coke, but I'm still careful about my overall consumption of artificial sweeteners.
Good luck! I started changing my eating habits about 6 months ago to include 2 days a week when I eat mostly fruits and vegetables. I've lost enough weight that other people are starting to notice. It feels good!

I am proud of myself. Usually whenever I go on a car trip it is habit to stop and get a candy bar and pop to keep me occupied on the trip. Yesterday I had to go out of town and didn't stop to get a pop and candy bar. I was going to give in thinking "well I haven't had a pop for a week so one won't hurt" but I stuck to my no pop rule. And then for Easter dinner my parents usually have pop if you want one to drink for dinner. I usually have one but once again convinced myself I could make it through without one.

There's nothing wrong with sugar refined or otherwise in moderation.

You know that, as far as your body knows, sugar is sugar is sugar. So honey, natural though it may be, is no better. It's still sugar. Actually, honey breaks down into a higher fructose:glucose ratio than table sugar (about the same as HFCS), so it's not a great choice if it's the fructose you're worried about.

You can also make some awesome veggie dips out of plain greek yogurt. I do this as well. I also add either a tiny bit of organic honey or agave nectar to sweeten it just a bit. I put a little bit of dark cocoa and two packets of splenda in my fat free greek yogurt...it's pretty good that way. I can't have honey or nectar but that sounds yummy, too.
