The good news: I'm not going to die! The bad news: No benching or pressing movements for a month, more pain killers, relaxers and steroidal cream. Diagnosis: osteolysis of the distal clavicle with associated bursitis. What is it? Distal clavicular osteolysis (DCO) is often associated with problems weightlifters have with their acromioclavicular joints due to high stresses put on the clavicle as it meets with the acromion. This condition is often referred to as "weight lifter's shoulder." I do not want this: "A common surgery to treat recalcitrant DCO is re-sectioning of the distal clavicle, removing a few millimetres of bone from the very end of the bone." So I will listen to and follow the treatment he's outlined for me. Basically, what happens as he explained it is that the joint has debris from trauma and as the body tries to eliminate the debris it also gets rid of some of the bone. He rotated my shoulder and was like "oh yeah, lots of popping and cracking!"

Well, I'm certainly glad that Deb wasn't your doctor and you're going to live! I'm sorry to hear about your condition. What is the success rate of the surgery? If you follow his orders and you continue to lift, won't it happen again? I'm sorry it wasn't better news. Btw, that is reason I don't work my shoulders. I'm just looking out for my distal clavicle.

Doing shoulders does not hurt nor induce any pain it's any pressing from the prone position like flat bench, flat dumbell bench that's the problem. On the plus side I pulled a new PR last night on deadlifts. Lifted more than my best competition DL! YEAH ME!! /waits for pat on the back from Fam

On the plus side he said I could continue lifting with other body parts. I am questioning his prescription though. I just looked up the (what he called a steroidal cream) Voltaren. However, upon looking this up, it is the same thing as he is telling me to take orally (diclofenac) which is an NSAID. The pharmacy called and left a message with the ortho so I hope they get that straightened out. Gotta say the diclofenac works wonders. It reduces the hormones that cause pain and inflammation in the body. ETA he knows me all to well he gave me a stern look and said don't go taking this so you can keep lifting. hehe got some more motivation too. The cute little x-ray girl, she must of been about 23 asked me to roll my sleeves up over my elbows so she could x-ray my forearms as I have problems with tendinitis when I didn't she attempted to and she couldn't get my sleeves up due the size of my arms. She giggled and said well that's not going to work. I think she just wanted me to take my shirt off.

"I think she just wanted me to take my shirt off." You're right on that one!
I have been looking at pictures in an ortho ad that was sent to me on what a normal and abi-normal (pun intended) look like.
You sold me on going back to the bench machine rather than do d.b.s. I have one little spot that goes ouch after b.p. Tennis serves can aggravate this area.
Those bursas are sure a p.i.a. or p.i.s or p.i.h.
I am going to start golfing soon so I won't be posting as much. Okay, I heard the sigh of relief.

Pig, I know someone who had this procedure done. You should really consider it. You will be out for a while, but once it's done, your shoulder will be smooth and silk.

Ortho surgery on a shoulder will put you out of commission for a while and it is a big surgery to me even if it is 2 hours under general anesthesia. Get well pig (I'm not Ortho or anesthesia)

No way ID, surgery is a last resort. And it only has an 85% chance or so of alleviating the problem. No chest this week. Thanks Deb.
