I think someone asked this already, but I can't find the thread.
Do you fitness buffs workout with weights every other day or every 2 days?
If I work out on Monday, I will be fine on Tuesday, and then I am sore on Wednesday. Do I still workout on Wednesday or should I wait until Thursday? how much time does the muscle need to rest?
In my 20s I used to workout every other day. I wonder if due to my age, I need to change to every 2 days? But, I am trying to build my endurance back up and I think every 2 days will delay that. I do not want to be muscle-y, I want to look as long and lean as possible. Thank you for your thoughts

If I'm on cycle I will go to the gym everyday even if I'm sore as hell. Despite what most people think, getting "muscle-y" isn't easy to do. You won't get all bulky by accident I can guarantee you that. If you want to look long and lean you only have to do cardio.

Maybe I should do cardio everyday (or every other day when I'm lazy) and do weights every 2 days. I have been wanting to start jogging outside, so that is what I can work on in-between the 2 days of weights. Thank you for your input!!

I lift weights every other day. I'm not training for a competition and just like the way it makes me feel on my way to bulking up. It also allows me to plan on every other day to actually get something done out side of work. I need to start swimming on my days off, but can't quite get there.

It's your choice. If you have the nice tone you want, all body parts twice a week. As you said, summer changes the plan so we plan for that change.
I lift weights 3 days a week. One is nautilus, one is DebMD, and one is other stuff like kettlebells. I have to push myself to do cardio 2 days. I make sure I take one full day off each week. The other day is for things like exercise videos.
I have a record I keep of my gym time. When the page is full, I do pyramids to increase my weights.
If you are sore, you might need a longer stretch hold or do the exercise ball or hard foam cylinder to cool off. I take a nap after I eat lunch almost every day.

I lift M/W/F and right now only get cardio helping out at my daughter's softball practices (Tu/F) and games (at least every Sat, usually one more during the week sometimes in place of a practice). I was only really getting sore when I started, and I still hit the weights sore. I get slight muscle soreness now, my pecs a touch as I'm typing this, but it's really not bad enough to affect anything. A little stretching throughout the day, and it's usually gone by dinner time the day after I lift.

Depends on the cardio. Get off the treadmill/elliptical/stair climber and on a rowing machine once in a while and you can tone up your arms and back while doing cardio too.

I need to do the rowing machine again. Supposed to be good for the back and god knows I have no upper body strength. However, I forgot my music tonight and the only other person in the gym sounded like they were hacking up a hairball and I couldn't take it anymore so I bounced. I was impressed with the selection of machines and they had mats and those big balance balls being that its an apt complex gym.

I am doing the New Rules of Lifting for Women workouts right now and they recommend every other day and no more than 3 days of lifting in a 7 day time period, at least for their program because all the exercises use multiple muscles. So I usually do M/W/F for lifting and either some HIIT and abs or Wii Fit yoga on the opposite days.

Okay, I went to the gym tonight and did the weight machines anyway, so I will stick to every other day for weights and 30 mins of cardio, then I will start jogging outside on the opposite days. I've put off the outdoor jogging long enough - its time to get down to business. I will be stretching too to try to alleviate muscle soreness. Its really not too bad, I just wasn't sure about if/how long the muscles needed a repair period. Thanks everyone for the input

The usual advice is to give your muscles 48 hours to recover, so every other day for weights. But you can do weights every day if you train a different part of your body on different days. (Of course in reality it doesn't work 100% like that because it is very hard to ensure you don't do any work that involves the parts of your body you are not focusing on that day.)
I have two days where I do total body weight training (Body Pump), and three days where I do 1/2 hour of strength training, but it is a different program for each of those 3 days, targeting different muscle groups. I also do cardio 5 days a week.

I try to work out every other day, so 3 to 4 times a week depending on the week.

I've been doing two times a week boot camp (Monday and Wednesday) and running on the treadmill Fridays. Now it's going to change to cardo/strength class Mondays, pilates Fridays, and probably running Wednesdays, maybe Sundays when I can. Going to add some weights to Wednesdays probably so I can work on my upper body/arm strength. Rock climbing leaves me hurting for 3 days because my upper body's so weak so I gotta do something about that!

Wow, they renamed it just for the American market? In the UK and New Zealand the BTS classes still have their usual names: Body Pump, Body Balance (what you called Group Centergy), Body Combat, Body Attack, Body Step etc (I do all those: there are other programs too). I just find the Group ... names a bit odd. Here's a link to Les Mills. You can see the 'old names' are still in use for current releases. Unless you do different tracks and choreography too? www.lesmills.com/global/classes/group-fitness-classes.aspx

That stupid comment doesn't warrant a comment. So why'd you comment?

I'm not familiar with BTS, but looking on google, they appear to be similar to Les Mills, with similar formats, but with "Group _" names, while Les Mills has the "Body _" names. Body Step 83 release on 4/30!!! ;D

Rebecca, just remember that variety is the spice of life. Especially the life of your workouts.

Interesting, thanks for the links! I've only been doing Les Mills classes (in the US) for a little over 3 years. Started with Body Step, then added Body Flow, and now Body Pump. The YMCAs in my area only offer one more Les Mills format (Body Vive) for me to try!

I had no idea that they had split until muscleup mentioned Group Power and I googled it. We don't have Body Vive at our gym, but one of my Combat instructors teaches it elsewhere and she said it was aimed more at over 50s and was lower impact than other BTS offerings. Which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your perspective. Can you petition your YMCAs to add Body Combat to the timetable? Best. Thing. Ever. I love Body Step, but would get bored with it if it was the only cardio I was doing.

I workout everyday. Some days heavier than others. I'm still trying to get my routine tweaked.
