Moonbeam, where the heck is the bow down and worship you icon when I need it, dahling? I was hoping you would come along and put the Jack LaLanne wannabe out to pasture.
She got skunked doing this stuff on the regular boards, so it winds up here, in the form of a video lecture no one needs.

That, too. Who gives a rat's hinder parts about videos, photos and multiple pounds of meat and veggies consumed by one person?

I eat other vegetables other than spinach. I also eat asparagus. I try to eat foods that are anti inflammatory.
Inflammation is not always as obvious or benign as the above examples. It can silently involve every cell in your body and, over time, negatively affect your health and abilities. For example, allergies, joint pain, and premature aging are just a few of the common ailments linked to "systemic inflammation." But if you can't see inflammation, how do you measure it?
The levels of certain chemicals in your blood are known to increase with increased levels of inflammation. One of these chemical markers for inflammation is a protein called C-reactive protein (CRP). CRP is often measured in conjunction with other blood tests, and normal values are well established. From a clinical standpoint, a CRP level of less than 5 milligrams per liter of blood is considered normal. "Normal" may not be optimal, though. Many medical researchers believe that even slight elevations of CRP are tied to increased risk for heart attack, stroke, and many other diseases.
Note: If you'd like to have your CRP measured, consult your physician, who can order a simple blood test

This what I do In Controlling Inflammation with Diet
Your body creates both inflammatory and anti-inflammatory chemicals, called "prostaglandins" from nutrients in the food that you eat. Imbalances in your diet can lead to the creation of excessive amounts of inflammatory prostaglandins, which fuel your body's inflammatory response. Conversely, the consumption of certain nutrients, like omega-3 fatty acids, allows your body to produce more anti-inflammatory prostaglandins, which it uses to reduce inflammation.
Modern nutrition experts, including Andrew Weil, Nicholas Perricone, and Barry Sears, have written many books about diet's link to inflammation, and have promoted the increased consumption of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and other nutrients that help control or reduce inflammation. Until now, however, the recommendations regarding anti-inflammation diets have been limited to a relatively small group of foods. That limitation has been lifted with the introduction of the IF (Inflammation Factor) Rating.

Jack Lalanne was a fantastic person for all he showed us mainly about exercise. There is way too much emphasis on looking grotesquely muscular instead of-- fit. Lalanne was fit. A reminder that Arnold Schwarzenegger once broke into a gym to work-out after eating because he thought he looked-- fat. The moral-- don't let vanity get in the way of sanity. EAT-- regularly and from all food groups. FIGURE OUT what you crave and why. WORK-OUT to keep your engine (body) running at peak potential. Make it a hotrod and expect it to end up in the junk yard faster than a well-maintained stock model.
I do not agree with a lot of your posts, Deb and I don't think you're a medical professional, so get rid of the false credential.

As one gets to ~ 30y/o muscle mass[your body's metabolic engine] is lost @~ 1% per year and your DNA does not care what else is going in your life. It's going to degrade its 1%. Taking care of your muscle mass is vital.

And who is monitoring the"naturals" to make sure they don't contain contaminants? ? This truly makes much more sense! And eat NATURAL foods as opposed to foods filled with chemicals (butter/margarine)! And BTW, all your figures and videos, etc. don't apply to everyone!

Would like to be able to do the prior posted exercises with at least 50% + of my body weight on the weight lifting bar. I have been adding 1.75 lbs every 2nd workout session and am now at 50 lbs on the bar and it's difficult and my progress is slower. I'll get there eventually. I think goal of 70 lbs would be nice, nothing much heavier.
The 2nd problem is figuring out once I get to that goal of 70 lbs of weight on the weight bar. How is the work out to be adjusted to keep up with an anticipated muscle loss of ~1-3% per year.
Not sure if increasing reps 1-3% per year correlates to 1-3% of muscle mass...probably not.
Not sure if increasing lbs on bar by 1-3% correlates either because for example @ 1%=7 lbs If in 2011 weight on bar is 70 lbs and in 2021 weight on bar would be 77 and in 2031 weight on bar would be 84 lbs Adding 7 lbs to my weight bar over a year would be by ~.5 lbs per month

Decreasing time of workout
I set a timer between sets to 2:30 minutes. When the alarm goes off time to do next set.
This decreased my total workout time tremendously.
If I could get my recovery time to 1 minute that would be even better.

May I add...know what good soreness is versus bad soreness. Joint pain = bad. A fiery burning in the muscle = bad. Also, you don't have to be injured to ice (the good) soreness away.

I like my muscles tingly and not sore. If I get sore I will not workout and that sets me back.

My goal of lifting 51%+ of my body weight may be reached sooner than I thought. I didn't know the weight of the bar is included. Bar weighs 15 lbs +53lbs on bar=68 lbs. Maybe I'll add 1.5 lbs per month and in 2 months I'll be at 71 lbs.
Once I get comfortable with ~70lbs. I'll tweak the whole work out plan. [add more cardio like 2-3 miles per day on treadmill or P90X]

Okay, I bit. As soon as the chiro tells me I can lift free weights, I will. I returned to machines about 6 wks. ago and do have increase in strength. I don't need a spotter with the machines, and don't have someone else's schedule to consider. I can probably adapt some of the moves to the cable machines.
I also came out of my basement weight room. I wore out an early 80s gym pack cables twice and was able to get them replaced locally. The co. called me and said they would no longer be making rep0lacement parts.
The chiro was for minor adjustment from trying a lower body move that I shouldn't have aggravating an old injury. It was a side leg lift with a large ball between my legs.
On the DHEA do we need to pulse that with 10 days on/off? I haven't taken that for several years. When I took that with SOD, I looked 10 years younger than my age.
Thanks for the posts. You are a blessing to us.

There is not necessarily a correlation between strength and size. Lifting for strength is quite a bit different than lifting for size.

Sugar is addictive poison. I try to quit, but I can't Yes this may be hard for you. If it is white sugar try eating other whole foods that have 'sugar' like components in them-fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and see how that goes. When you need a sugar fix instead of grabbing a cookie or a piece of pie/cake eat some fruit.
