What type of workouts do you do? What exercises, how long, how often? Etc? I want to get more variety in my workout. I used to just do the treadmill, etc but I want to incorporate more variety from the gym to outside so looking for suggestions. Also, need a bit of spot reducing on the abs as well so besides situps need some suggestions. I am trying to make full use of the gym, using the elliptical, rowing machines, weights and whatever else is there. I play a bit of basketball and so forth. How do you keep fit? I've pretty much outlined my workout on my thread 'What My Body Needs'. I don't do sit ups and I have a six pack and am working on the definition of my abs. Also I don't have much time to be a gym rat. I workout at home.

well I'm NOT consistent with my exercise routine. However if I was consistent and I have completed my 'dream' routine once or twice when seeing what works for me and my schedule; it would be: stationary bike 4 out of 7 days per week stationary bike before work 30 to 60 minutes (depending on time I get up) stationary bike after work 30 to 60 minutes (depending on time I get home to cook dinner) curl bar every night sets of 20 / 5 set push ups every night sets of 20 / 5 sets
makes me happy just thinking about it! ;D

I do the Nautalis machines twice a week with Thursday being any program I've found on the internet or target areas. I force myself to do 15 minutes treadmill after 6 machines then 15 minutes of 3 stride Precor. 3 strides are stair climbing, jogging and running with the arm movement forward and back or up/down. The stationary bikes were full so I skipped the last 15 minutes. I finished with exercise ball and stretch. Tomorrow will be treadmill routine, 3 stride precor and stationary bike hopefully for one hour and at target heart rate.
I'm not getting the toning results I want, which could be an age issue, my dietary intake, or too many years of weight training on/off. Of course the fitness trainers want to sell me some sessions, and say don't do the same thing over and over expecting different results. Same thing being the machines.
Men's Health has some really good programs, online and are free. Outside online magazine has some programs to train for marathons and long distance biking. A lot of the gym rats cut any exercise routines out of fitness magazines for their variety.
This summer when I play golf and tennis a lot, I am switching to a 6 day/week dumbell program that takes 12 minutes w/o cardio/aerobics/stretch/plank/ex. ball.
A mantra to pick up is to do something everyday even if it's pushups and situps only. Or yoga first thing in the morning.
If you have an exercise zen that really helps. Mine used to be downhill and cross country skiing. The knees just got too swollen and tender. Zen being the thing that gets your adrenalin pumping just thinking about it.

I try to do six days a week, but I usually end up combining at least one day of both cardio and weights. Here is what I aim for:
Monday: Weightlifting - Chest/Triceps/Abs Tuesday: Cardio - at least an hour on the treadmill or 3 miles (whichever comes first if I am running or hiking hills). Wednesday: Weightlifting - Legs/Shoulders Thursday: Cardio - same as Tues Friday: Weightlifting - Back/Biceps/Core Saturday: Cardio (either treadmill or was skiing when we had snow)
I always seem to fit in the weights while neglecting the cardio. Once the weather warms up and I can run outside, I will be more likely to do cardio than lifting.
I like exercising, it isn't the exercising that is a problem for me, it's the eating, which I am trying to curb. I don't really have any weight to lose, just would like to tone up and maybe one day have nice abs!

i usually go to the gym weekdays...if i work from home i'll miss my workout...i kind of follow the body for life workout routine but not by the letter if you kwim...
i'll do cardio every time i go...usually bike or eliptical...i'll do interval style...one minute at base level, the next minute up one resistance level at fast pace, one minute at base level, the next minute up two levels at a fast pace...so on for six resistance levels then start over...usually 20 but have been going 30 minutes lately...
weight routine is: mon, wed, fri = legs, abs (knee surgery a few years back) tue, thur = upper body
body for life routine is: 12 reps, wait one minute, increase weight 10 reps, wait one minute, increase weight 8 reps, wait one minute, increase weight 6 reps, wait one minute, should be max limit, go back to start weight 12 reps, don't wait, go to same muscle group but different exercise and do 12 reps...

Right now I am almost exclusively jogging on the treadmill. Sometime in April, probably, I will start lifting some weights...

I've been doing 30 minutes of very slow jogging on the treadmill and the weight machines for arms and legs at the gym (after a 4 month hiatus from working out). I want to start jogging outside soon, but that is harder for me than jogging on the treadmill.
My only problem with working out regularly is how much hungrier I get throughout the day. I am gaining weight now that I am exercising and it is not just building muscle. For the people losing weight while exercising, I would love to know what your meal plans are. On a different thread, Patstab suggested fruit smoothies which is a great idea since our farmers market is coming back soon. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Patstab: Be extremely careful about your eye and any activity. A friend ended up with a detached retina, extreme pain, surgery and lost her eye sight.
Rebecca: I have that problem in the summer when I golf. I eat something about every 1 to 2 hours and am still starved, put on weight and am puffy. I walk for 18 holes which is about 5 miles in 4 hours. Golf is more strenuous than what the exercise charts say.
After your workout, try eating a banana. A seminar I went to on running recommended a fruit and a snack bar. That's too much for me in calories. I also like 1 slice 45 calorie bread with a slice of cheese or peanut butter.
See the thread "What my body needs" for some ideas on food.
Check any medication you might be taking as weight gain could be a side effect. I have that problem with one med.

I got cleared today to do some different exercises so I asked if I could do squats. The doc said sure but do body weight. I replied, man, body weight is awfully heavy on the bar for me! Wrong thought by me. It's no weight but body and work my way up with dumbbells. If communication can be mistaken, it certainly will.
I am going to slowly incorporate DebMD's program switching from Nautilus machines to dumbbells or the bar.

I count clicking my mouse. I also count bending over when I drop something on the floor.

I go to the gym 3-4 times a week (every other day), and I do 30 minutes of intense cardio (I wear a heart rate monitor to make sure that I stay in the 80-90% max heart rate zone), followed by an hour of circuit training and ab workout. Combined with a healthy pescatarian diet, I've been able to keep my body fat in the 6-8% range for the past 4 years, with six-pack abs.

I have to switch up my workouts all the time so I don't get bored. Right now it looks like this:
Monday: 1.25 hr zumba class Wednesday: Body Pump or workout dvd at home Friday: Body Pump or workout dvd at home Saturday: Pole aerobics - yep I'm giving it a try for six weeks. Sunday: workout dvd at home or zumba class
My workout dvd selections include 30 day shred, the firm, p90x
My goal is to workout 4 days a week every week combining two days cardio, two days weight training. I also rollerblade and walk/run with my dog alot in the summer

Current workout routine is:
Monday: Kickboxing Tuesday: Body Pump Wednesday: Body Combat Thursday: Body Step & Body Attack Friday: Rest day Saturday: Body Combat Sunday: Body Attack & Body Pump
When the weather gets better I am thinking of going to Running club on Thursdays and skipping the classes that day. I might also start cycling to work one day a week (35 mile round trip) and skip the gym that evening. In the summer I might manage some hillwalking as well.
I'm also thinking of adding in a couple of Kettlebell workouts pre-Kickboxing and post-Combat, and making Tuesday a second rest day instead.

Recently started lifting again after almost a year long break. Currently on the basic Starting Strength routine.
Workout A Squat 3x5 Bench 3x5 Dead Lift 1x5 Weighted NS sit ups 3x5
Workout B Squat 3x5 Overhead Press 3x5 Power clean 5x3 Weighted cork screw sit ups 3x5
Alternate the workouts on Mon/Wed/Fri and add weight to each lift every workout. When I plateau on that I'll go to a weekly split routine.

What's a pescatarian diet?
The town is shut down due to heavy, wet snow on the roadways so I did Callanetics at home.
