What do you spend per day on your vitamins and supplements?
Yesterday I sort of computed this in my head and I figured mine cost me over $2.00 a day. I just ordered Sam-e and that alone is $1.00 a day. My Ultimate Omegas cost about .83 a day because I order a good kind and take two a day. Then I take a multi-vitamin, Vitamin D, and B Complex, which have minimal costs. I order from Vitamin Shoppe. Is there a cheaper place with quality merchandise?

puritan dot com has inexpensive vitamins. They have great sales like buy two get three free. Glucosamine/Condroitin and eye guard need to be bought on their sales. If you get their catalog, you can compare products a lot easier as they list what is in the product.
I have no idea what I spend because I consider vitamins and supplements preventive health care.
I get about 90 extra strength Estroven from Sam's for about $20. The same thing at Walmart for one month is $20. I use Walmart's store brand of Complete vitamin for my multi. Sam's Club is a good place to buy protein powder. I transfer a portion from the big bag to a daily useable container.

I agree... the cost per day doesn't matter as much as consistency. CVS frequently has Buy One Get One with the Card discount on top of that. Name brands also have coupons and a sealed bottle beyond the expiration date hasn't lost any potency. Red Wine Extract has helped me eliminate others. I haven't had the need for Glucosamine yet but it often smarts slipping my left arm into my jacket.

I've taken vitamins since I was 4 years old (Flintstone multi in the beginning). Whether food or pill, the objective is the balance. A long time ago I read some research on the Mitochondria and preserving their integrity as a hedge against degeneration as we age. There is a direct relation to our intake and what they use as fuel. The vitamins and minerals I take attempt to maintain my Mitochondria. The men in my family are strong all the way until they hit about 72 and then slide very quickly into poor health. My father's doctor told him that he ate food he liked, not food he needed and when his body demanded certain types of fuel- it wasn't there. In a year, he went from being a healthy individual to- not. I prefer to have what my body needs when it needs it.
"In cell biology, a mitochondrion (plural mitochondria) is a membrane-enclosed organelle found in most eukaryotic cells. These organelles range from 0.5 to 10 micrometers (ìm) in diameter. Mitochondria are sometimes described as "cellular power plants" because they generate most of the cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), used as a source of chemical energy. In addition to supplying cellular energy, mitochondria are involved in a range of other processes, such as signaling, cellular differentiation, cell death, as well as the control of the cell cycle and cell growth. Mitochondria have been implicated in several human diseases, including mitochondrial disorders and cardiac dysfunction, and may play a role in the aging process."
When you're cold in a normal temperature room, your mitichondrial engine isn't getting the fuel it needs to to keep you up to speed. In youth, they are prolific, in elderly they are barely there.

My wife takes prenatal vitamins (not sure what they cost) but other than that we don't supplement out food. i used to take cretin and some protein stuff, but it just wasn't worth it to me.

The doc gave me a Vitamin D script = $6/month.
The only other one that I take is an iron supplement. I think they run me $10/2 months, but I always catch them BOGO so they last 4 months.

Do you all know that all these vitamins don't get to be digested by your body 90%? You better off eating fresh fruits and even better vegetables. Speciallly those who live in Philadelphia!

I feel like I eat lots of produce, but I always seem to end up with some deficiency or other. I was terrible at taking vitamins on a regular basis until I bought those viactiv calcium supplements that are flavored like chocolate and the gummy vitamins. I do a lot better if it is something that I can chew that tastes good.

I only take iron (bc I am anemic), flax seed oil and calcium. I get it in Vitamine Shoppe when they have Buy One Get One half price sale twice a year. I think I spend ~$100/yr.
I am not including prenatal vitamins bc one of these days I am hoping to finally stop taking them.

I personally refuse to take any supplements. You really don't know what is in them, what they may be adulterated with and so forth. I get my nutrition from food, if it isn't enough, so be it. I agree with this statement. Unfortunately because of this it cost me more. It is almost impossible to get all the nutrients your body needs and a lot of it depends on the individual. Depending on your genetic makeup you may need different vitamins levels then others. Everybody is different to what nutrients is needed a lot of it depends on your atmosphere, day to day activities and diet. Myself I find it best to go to an experienced herbalist and find the right combination of herbs to take daily. Per month it cost 60 dollars to get my daily herbs and then I do a body cleanse every 6 months which is approximately 45 to 60 dollars. The rest of my nutrients I get from the food I eat.
