I might have spelled it wrong, but has anyone tried one of thee supplements? They are supposed to accelerate fat burning through and increased metabolism. I bought one at GNC yesterday and thought I'd see if there's anything to it.

I've used several. Do they work? Everything is relative. The ones that work well are illegal such as DNP and Keto. The OTC ones work but are very mild. The do NOT really increase metabolism. What they are supposed to do it increase your body temperature (thus the name thermogenics, thermo=heat genic=creating/producing). In order to maintain a higher body temperature your body must get that increased energy from somewhere.
There are several ways chemicals can do this. DNP which is arguably the best but most dangerous blocks ATP sysntesis causing the energy fo the reaction to not produce ATP but rather directly release the energy in the form of heat. People taking this should be VERY careful as it's easy to literally die from the heat.
OTC thermos are not that effective but can work if used wisely. Most contain stimulants for appetitite reduction along with a multitude of other things like green tea extract etc.
By far the best legal one is ephedra. Ephedra as a pure extract (from plants) is illegal. However, there are now companies that have removed the alkaloids from the extract making it legal. You will feel this working and you will sweat your ass off.
The popular OTC ones such as Hydroxycut (there are several variation of this on the market) Red Line etc are not effective unless you combine it with a good diet and exercise plan. In other words you can't just take them without changing your diet and expect to see any difference in weight loss.

Thanks for the info Dr. Pig. It was an impulse buy yesterday when I was picking up some creatine. I thought I'd give them a try, although I am not going to take them at their recommended dosage. I'm gong to try only one or two per day (they recommend three), and add them into my daily routine, combined with my diet and exercise program. It will be interesting to see if they make any difference over the next couple of months. If not, I won't try it again. I took one and was loading some wood into the truck and am sweating more than usual. I know that's what they're supposed to do, but I hope they do more than just shed water weight, I can do that on my own.

What brand did you buy? Oh, I'm sure you know but feel I should mention it.......do NOT take it with a pre workout since they both likey have the same stimulants in them and you can OD on it (get the shakes and sweat profusely and get naseous).

I bought the AMP muscle igniter. I don't currently use any pre-workout supplement, and thought this might work (at least that's what the label says), I guess I should say that this is what I intend to use it for. I work out after work, and often have a hard time getting fired up to do so. This is supposed to help get me fired up. We'll see.

I just looked it up I recognized it as GNC brand but didn't know what was in it. It looks like a combination of pre workout ingredients and claimed thermogenic properties.
One thing I noticed is the dosing. A true thermogenic is dosed even spaced out through the entire day. That's really the only way you're going to see any effect from a thermogenic imho. But this product is dosed like a preworkout ie 30-40 minutes pre workout. That makes me quesion it's effectiveness as a fat burner but it looks like a decent pre workout drink.
Please let me know how you like it after a week or two.

I was camping for the weekend, so last night was my first chance to try the pre-workout before actually working out. I'm not sure about the results yet. The bottle recommends taking three pills about an hour before you start. I only took two and had none of the problems I read about (extreme stomach ache, cramping, accelerated heart rate, etc.) The biggest problem I noticed was the inability to maintain focus. I like to lift in a zen-like state, calm and focused. I was benching last night and no matter how hard I tried, I could not relax and focus. One time I almost forgot what I was doing and dropped the damn thing on my chest. After that I got a spotter and overall I had a great workout. After about an 1/2 hour I was able to focus again and finished strong. The verdict is still out on these things, but I'd like to be able to keep my focus when I work out. I think I'll stick to just taking one pill next time and see if that helps. I'll let you know.

Please do. I also am not a fan of pre workouts in the form of pills. I like the powder because you can sip it throughout your workout which does help with energy and focus. Pills is a one shot deal and if you mis time it your SOL. Also my wife goes with to the gym on weekends and I'll end up taking them (if pills) and she will dick around and we end up late and I've already blown the pill wad by then.
