How much do you get/need? I find I need at least eight hours a night, but feel much better if I can get 9-10 hours. The harder I work out, the more sleep I need, I also find myself wishing for a nap several days a week. Naps are great.

I would love to get 8 hours a night. I usually get about 7. I hate naps, they mess me up so I never take them.

I sleep about 8 to 10 hours but it's broken sleep. I usually nap every day. Some days I have nap attacks and have several. The days I lay about with no exercise is when that happens. Naps are a stress coping mechanism for me.
I am unusually stressed right now like the normal life scene before the catastrophy in movies. Then everyone is unprepared and runs screaming. The river is coming, the river is coming.

The last time I tried to nap I just ended up lying in bed for 4 hours. I hate napping. I'm lucky if I get 6 hours a night. Not enough for sure.

I can fall into the deepest sleep you can imagine within five minutes of laying down or sitting still in a chair. I will be out for 20-30 minutes, then up and ready to take on the world. My wife hates that fact, because she is like some of you and can take hours to fall asleep. I tell her it's all my clean living.

I need at least 8, for the last year I've been averaging about five. Once in a while I will take a nap in my chair.

I need 8 hours of sleep to feel my best, but usually average about 6 1/2. This time of year I seem to need less sleep. I'm guessing because there are more hours of daylight.

I probably need 8 and think I usually get about 7. If I am awake in the middle of the night I will get up and read. I am more likely to fall asleep if I do this. Otherwise I lay in bed and my mind begins to race.
Even though I don't usually get 8 hours of sleep, DH thinks I sleep too much.
I don't have my thyroid anymore if I get much less than 7 hours of sleep I am completely physically exhausted

I'm in bed by 10:30 and get up at 6, but I wake up a few times a night (thanks to my bladder and my cat), so I don't quite get 7.5 hours. I need at least 8 hours. I'm normally so exhausted that we're usually in bed at 11 on Fridays and I don't wake until after 9 Saturday mornings.

I prefer at least 8 hours but can get by on 7 or so with some catch up on the weekends.

Dr.Pig, do you normally have trouble falling asleep?

Sometimes. Most night it takes me about 10-20 minutes or less to fall asleep. But once I'm up forget about going back to sleep.

I'm a horrible sleeper. I talk/kick/wrestle in my sleep. I never feel rested even though I get 8 hours/night. I've been on Trazadone for sleep for years...I wouldn't get even my crappy sleep without it.
I also can't nap to save my life.
DH is a great sleeper - sleeps deeply (doesn't notice my activity) and works great with 6 hours/night. I'm so jealous of him.

I wish I could get 8 hours of sleep every night, but I usually average between 5-6 hours a night during the weekdays and play catchup on the weekends. I know it's not ideal, but there just seems to be so much to do and not enough time to do it. I want to retire early so I can sleep in, go to the gym, and then work on my hobbies! ;D

I average 6.5 - 7.5 hours sleep a night. I can get more in the winter, but I naturally wake up earlier in summer, even on weekends. Occasionally during the holidays I might manage to 'catch up' by sleeping for 9 or 10 hours, but only by going back to sleep after I first wake up.
I get really grumpy and find it hard to concentrate if I get less than 6 hours of sleep a night.

Wow, I feel bad for those of you who don't sleep well. I guess I just take it for granted. For those of you with trouble, what have you done to try to improve your sleep?

I have been treated for insomnia since 2007, and insomnia has been a life long issue. I consider taking scripts as ruining my life since I have dealt with this for so long.

6 hours is a good night's sleep for me. I go thru spells of insomnia (evidently now, for example). I haven't used an alarm since middle school. I'm ALWAYS up by 6, no matter what time I went to bed. I don't do caffeine. If I'm having trouble staying awake, I'll drink a Cranergy (Ocean Spray juice w/green tea).
When possible, a power nap (15-45 minutes) and I'm good for several more hours. I use to try to stay awake until 8pm or so, thinking I'd sleep all night...NOPE. So now if I can grab a nap, I take it.
If I've gone several nights with only 2 or 3 hours of sleep, I'll take Trazadone. I have to take it no later than 8:00 or I'm still zonked the next morning. DH outweighs me by about 100 lbs and the scrip he was given is half the strength of mine, but he says it's WAY too strong for him.
the really funny thing is my sis & I usually hit our bouts of insomnia at the same time. We can go without talking for weeks...we talk and find out neither of us are sleeping! Weird! When she was pregnant, I got her cravings too. No, we aren't twins.

Now I lay me down not to sleep. I just get tangled in the sheets. I swim in sweat 3 inches deep Just lay back and claim defeat Chapter read and lesson learned. Turn the lights off while she burns. So while she's 300 degrees, I throw the sheets off and I freeze. Chorus: Lids down, I count sheep I count heart beats. The only thing that counts is that I won't sleep I countdown, I look around Who needs sleep?? Well you're never gonna get it. Who needs sleep?? Tell me, what's that for? Who needs sleep?? You're happy wiith what you get and there's a guy that's been awake since the 2nd world war. Who needs sleep?? Well you're never gonna get it. Who needs sleep?? Tell me, what's that for? Who need sleep?? You happy with what you get and there's a guy that's been awake since the 2nd world war. My hands are locked up tight in fists My mind is racing, filled with lists of things to do and things I've done Another sleepless night's begun. (Chorus) So much joy in life and so many pleasures all around but the pleasure of insomnia is one I'd never found. With all life has to offer, there's so much to be enjoyed but the pleasures of insomnia are ones I can't avoid. Lids down, I count sheep I count heart beats. The only thing that counts is that I won't sleep I countdown, I look around Halla halla halla Who needs sleep?? Well you're never gonna get it. Who needs sleep?? Tell me, what's that for? Who need sleep?? You hafta use what you get and there's a guy that's been awake since the 2nd world war Who needs sleep?? Well you're never gonna get it. Who needs sleep?? Tell me, what's that for? Who need sleep?? You hafta use what you get and there's a guy that's been awake since the 2nd world war
