I was walking my dogs on an early morning in November in front of a certain court when a lady and her two dogs were coming out of their door. She had no leash on her dogs, I did. As nature would dictate, her dogs approached my dogs to say hello. Now this lady was mad at her dogs because her dogs left her side and they would not listen to her.
Fast forward to December. The same scenario was repeated as I described above. Except this time she went off on me. She asked why do I HAVE to walk the dogs in front of her unit. All I could say was for her to get a leash for her dogs as mine never leave my site. She said for me to go walk my dogs somewhere else. All I could come back with was 'no, I like my daily route I will continue to walk my dogs where I want.' I kept walking as she kept mouthing off. 6am is too early to be arguing over something stupid. I thought about getting her a x-mas card for 'letting' me use her sidewalk.
I kinda changed my route but I still walk in front of her unit and I use HER sidewalk. I think I run into her about every three weeks. Today I barely missed her.
Discuss.

Some people are such PITA's. She should move to a 5 acre lot where see wouldn't have to see people or pets. I would continue your route!

Imagine starting the day off already mad at the neighbor, his dogs, and probably the world. Ew.

Remindsme of our neighbor who put a sign on her lan showing a dog pooping with a circle and a slash through it. Not because people were not picking up their dogs poop - they were. She just does not want the "residue" on her grass.

Doesn't your city have leash laws? If so, report. Then next time you see her tell her she has to have the dogs on a leash when she is on YOUR sidewalks. Also repeatedly remind her of the public right of way.

Blue I did tell her that in December. She had a leash on her dogs last time.

She just does not want the "residue" on her grass. That is understandable. You don't have to let people use your lawn as a toilet. But the sidewalk is public domain. You should get pepper spray and if the dogs come near you again. BAM a little hot eye.

I have several neighbors that believe that they own the sidewalk right in front of their house. I chalk it up to they are just miserable people inside and out and I ignore them. I don't have time for toxic people.
I think you handled it well Spydah.

Spydah, go to the pet store and get some of the training drops that tell a dog to "pee here". Go for a walk early, and put a few drops on her lawn. Revenge is sweet. Her dogs and every other one in the neighborhood will utilize the drops. Be creative in your placement.

I bet they go through their days being upset over something. As Angel said, some people are just miserable and go around with a chip on their shoulder waiting for something to upset them.

My issue these days is with people who refuse to accept responsibility for the sidewalk in front of their home/business. I don't walk my dogs, but I do walk to the bus stop in the mornings, and people who don't shovel the sidewalks really irritate me. (Yes, the city does "own" the sidewalk, but homeowners are required to shovel the walk within 12 hours of a snow fall.) Most of the time it's not too bad, although this morning NONE of the sidewalks were clear. But there's one section of walk outside a senior living building that I think the building management has decided they're not responsible for, because it never gets cleared. If it's not clear tomorrow, I'm calling the city. Ok, rant over. For now. (No, really, I need more coffee.)

I believe they are intended for people who choose to train their pups to go on newspaper. I train my dogs to go outside, preferably in my neighbor's yard

Tina and Later, they work well on paper or lawns! Use sparingly. I had one dog I was trying to paper train, with hopes of eventually taking the paper outside, etc. I used about 6 drops - way too much!!!! The whole house stunk. I then started putting the drops outside. The poor pup never even thought about going in the house after smelling that all day!

get a copy of the local leash law and nail it to her door along with a note that she is in violation and you will call the doggy cops on her if she dose not heel. or if you are the forward type hand it to her and tell her in person

Spydah: You should buy one of those joke leashes with a collar attached that makes it look like you're walking an invisible dog - and use it when she's sure to be out there just to watch the expression on her face. Then tell her that her dogs scared the **** out of your dog, and this is all that's left.

Go by her house in the middle of the night and write the expletive of your choice on her lawn with salt.
Buy a clunker car and keep parking it in front of her house for as long as you can get away with under local ordinance. For extra points, buy a can of spray paint and make it "The Dogmobile"

Oh, and go to a landscapers' supply house and buy some coyote urine. Sprinkle it liberally around her front porch.

I know that you guys are probably kidding, but being a jerk back to someone who is a jerk isn't the answer. I feel badly for people who have nothing better to do in life than bitch and complain. It must be a sad and lonely existence.

If the sidewalk is public domain, then why is it that "I" am required to shovel the portion in front of my house. If it belongs to the "public", why are they not there shoveling? To the OP, I am one of those people that police the sidewalk. If someone walks their dog in front of our house, our dogs bark like crazy. However, the dogs & neighbors using the sidewalk do not bother me nearly as much as the kids doing laps throughout the neighborhood on their bikes. After the last kid ran right into the back of our truck with their bike, I now tell the kids to go ride their bikes on their street.

Because it's part of the city's requirement of landowners, or HOA rules, or some such thing.

I am waiting for some ticked off landowner to sue the city over sidewalks. Seems to me that being forced to care for property that is not yours should be unconstitional.

Good luck with that. They also "own" parts of your land that you are responsible for mowing, watering, and pay taxes on but you cannot build anything on it.

Yeppers. 'Easements'. The government completely controls part of your property, like it or not.

Most cities have laws that say your cars cannot block the sidewalks. So if a child ran into the back of your truck, then it was probably ON the sidewalk where it shouldn't have been.
