I've been losing weight ever since I got this temp FT job for Backstage Library Works because a good portion of my workweek involves moving books from place to place.
I've lost 9 pounds since I started towards the end of June.
This is working out better for me than the 15 week weight loss challenge. Anyone else ever lose weight because of their job?

I worked as an executive secretary and would lose 5 lbs. the week of the board meetings. I was nicely thin and much younger.

When I was in retail at a big box store working every department I was in great shape. I'm landscaping this summer and probably in the best shape of my life (but oh, so sore.)

I probably break even. Sometimes my job requires me to walk several miles a day through uneven terrain, in less than favorable weather conditions, so I burn a bunch of calories. I also spend a significant amount of time driving, so I eat a lot of fast food, and you don't burn many calories sitting on your ass behind the wheel.
There are days I wish I was out working on a job site doing hard labor, but most of the time being a desk jockey isn't that bad.

In college, I had jobs that kept me in better physical condition than my current job (where I mostly stare at the computer all day). Babysitting (running after 2-5 kids always kept me in good condition and there was no time to eat!). Delivering documents to other departments/buildings on college campus. Building cabinets (of course, I met my husband there, so I added 250 pounds of dead weight )

I went from working in accounting (sitting on my butt) to being a bartender and dropped massive amounts of weight. The bar had no a/c....in Texas for starters. And it was non-stop moving (no waitresses...the 1 bartender on duty did it all), lifting cases of beer, tons of walking around and on top of it, I walked to work since it was around the corner. It was the skinniest I ever got without ever changing what I ate at all. I was sucking down tons of water & sodas & eating fast food/delivery food on the run. It was a much more physical job than I had ever imagined.

Yes - I once lost 50 pounds in six weeks due to job stress. Not fun.

I wish I could...I just want to lose 5-10 pounds and would love it if it just melted off...sigh, that doesn't happen when you sit your ass at a desk all day long...

I am 44, work as an accountant all day and study for the cpa exam for long periods of time in the evenings and weekends. Because of that and a two hour a day commute for two years (which thankfully ended in Jan 2011) I have gained alot of weight! I feel weak and unhealthy and I'm not very proud of the way I look. I HAVE to make exercise a part of my daily routine and get out of this rut but when you go 90 miles an hour all day, it's hard to get started. This is such a change for me because I was always so thin and athletic most of my life. I had a major lung surgery in 2008 (2 year recovery) and it's been downhill from there. I am planning to go back to spinning when classes resume in two weeks and ease back into walking and Wii EA2 in the meantime. Maybe I should get a part time job to make me move all night long!! I know what I have to do...now I just have to DO IT!!!

In my younger years, I worked a very challenging job with great time demands (12 hour days were not uncommon). I would walk into work and put my lunch and my purse in my desk drawer. Many days upon leaving I'd go to grab my purse to leave and my lunch was still there - I'd get so busy working and attending meetings that I'd forget to eat. Not the best way to maintain my girlish figure, but it worked.

The one job I had that was really physically intensive was doing HVAC installation one summer during college -- tons of heavy lifting, up and down ladders all day, spending way too much time in insulated attics that reached 120+ degrees, etc...
I actually gained weight at that job because every day was breakfast and lunch out with the bosses and never something healthy (not that I wanted healthy food anyway).

I was lifting weights fairly regularly at the time, so I was aware of my strength gains. I also was aware of the fact that my waist size increased over that summer too.

You might not have gained as much weight as you thought. Muscle is significantly heavier than fat, to the extent that very muscular people often have trouble floating at the beach. Muscle is not heavier...it is denser...so you can weigh more but look thinner.

Being retired and picking how I want to exercise and lose weight is priceless. MDW, do you take in temps for work/weight loss programs?

I realized that my previous post sounded a bit like whining so I'm sorry about that. We just received the new campus rec schedule ( I work for a Big 10 University) and the classes start back the week of the 22nd. I am going to go spinning Tu and Th from 12:00 - 12:50 (lunch hour). There is also a strength class in the evenings called Willpower & Grace (cute name) that I'm excited about trying. I am going to make it a priority to get back into the routine of exercise and taking care of myself again. It's all good. Baby steps lead to long journeys!

I think the OP lost weight so she could fit the "sexy librarian" fantasy to answer, I got in good shape loading and unloading trucks for UPS my first 1 and half years of college UPS pays good & good benefits (at least bacjk then they did, don't know what they do now), but they periodically spot check how fast you are unloading the truck...and their standards are high... 4 hours of that a day, 5 days a week was enough of a workout
