Oh cheer up. The penalty for drinking too many diet sodas can't be any more than 5-10 years. I bet you can even get out early for good behavior.

I don't drink diet soda, but I do drink a lot of Crystal Light. Probably just as bad for you.

Just tell Fam she has a nice azz and you will get good behavior and a karma, maybe. You might get a basement tour to boot. My DH's secretary got me started on the big diet colas. I used to live on them. That was when the refills for 32 ounce cups was 50 cents at the convenience store. Sometimes I had 2 a day. I bought cases of cans to keep on hand. I would switch to decafs after 5:00 p.m. I drank zero coffee at the time. Then oh then came the 100 degree below zero winter. The snow was so deep and the wind chill so harsh that drinking anything with an ice cube in it was like salt in the wound after the scab was ripped off by a band aid. Going outside was taking your life in your hands. I wore wool sweaters with a turtleneck underneath in the house. I switched to coffee even though the caffeine is different from diet cola. I don't know why it differs. The coffee caffeine would make my neck and shoulder tight. I pressed on with the dark brown warm liquid of coffee. A long time I swayed in the hammock between coffee and colas. The cola commercials that showed the chemicals in the cola is what turned me off completely. Now, I will drink a canned sugared tea before a cola. My preferred drinks now are plain water, water with lemon juice, iced tea plain or with a crystal light packet of raspberry lemonade as well as black coffee. To help hydrate, I use lemon water or watered down gatorade in the morning. I use 4 to 8 ounces fat free chocolate milk for after exercise along with a banana. On super hot days I make a small shake with ice cream and those ingredients. Sometimes I'll add protein powder and the shake will be lunch. All of those cans can be recycled for money. Now cola drinking has become an expense off setting activity.

Ok, on the for real, I made it 3 days with only drinking one diet soda, than I made it 2 days with only drinking a half can of diet soda (I recently found they sell these half can things ) and I managed a day totally free when the movers were here / busy-est day of the move, so I was proud of all that. than the last 3 days it went down hill, I had 1 and a half cans 2 days ago & 2 cans yesterday. Today since it is my rest day from moving ( am not unpacking anything today, the only moving related thing I did was hook up the washer and dryer so I could do laundry (I was low on draws--all I had left was bikini briefs so that meant it was time to do laundry))....and I am linking up with an old friend to drink some and smoke a cigar (why is there no cigar symbol thingee?) tonight ...and might be some diet drinks mixed in for this outing too, so I am allowing myself carte blanche for today my plan is tomorrow, I will try to get back on the wagon tomorrow.... goal is only 1 diet soda for Friday thru Sunday.....

I don't think so. It's not nearly as acidic, and I don't believe it has as much artificial sweetener in it.

"So how bad is diet soda?" Bad, real bad. 100% of people who drink diet soda eventually die.

so far I have managed to diet soda free today Rob, on a more helpful note if you want a healthier but pricey alternative I recommend Zevia soda. Its made with Stevia so zero calories, but no nasty artificial sweetner side effects. By me on sale it is $4.99 a six-pack. Regular price $5.79 and up depending who sells it.

If you manage to give up diet soda, I might have to try again. I don't really have much desire to give it up, other than the fact that it is a PIA to carry all that soda in the house. anyways...congratulations. You are making good progress. I know I pretty much gave up soda several years ago. I suggest you give it up completely though. I got myself down to 2 cans a day, and then it pretty much got out of control again.

Optimist, umm I am pretty sure 100% of people eventually die. Umm, Bean that was the point. ;D Is this better for emoticon(s) for pointed humor? Nothing's perfect, I avoid diet soda most of the time for health reasons as aspartame and some other artificial sweetners have bad mental side effects on some of us.

I get the Fam seal of approval? cool. It seemed like less trouble to just buy it vs. making my own so far yesterday and today no diet soda hope it holds up for today (I think it will, I have no diet soda in the house so I would have travel - that's my "barrier" I made to avoid a hasty re-lapse)

I get the Fam seal of approval? I wouldn't go that far. The iced tea got the seal, not you. Are you noticing that you are craving the diet soda more or less now that you are cutting back?

So, what in diet soda causes the addiction? Is it the caffeine, carbonation or what? I was drinking carbonated grapefruit juice and got addicted to it, but it was the carbonation, not the juice that kept me thirsty for more and more. It's the addictive personality issue. Maybe a better term is habitual consumption. I know people who love those carbonated flavored waters and think it's bad. Soooo what. They enjoy it and it's legal. If there is aspartame in them, then that is a different issue. You can google side effects of it and get a real increase in knowledge.
