Rick versus Mitt. Pretty much a draw. Mitt took some direct punches to the chest, but was able to defend himself, and definitely did not fold, like many thought he might. Perry has pretty much usurped Bachmann, as the Tea Party choice tonight. She was pretty much left out of the debate with Santorum, both being ignored by NBC tonight. Ron Paul, was, well, Ron Paul. Cain has also been thrown out with the bathwash with Perry now in the action. I liked Huntsman. Strong speaker, goood ideas. Newt probably helped himself a little tonight, but alas, he has been ignored by the moderators in both debates so far, so he is going nowhere. Perry received the most applause tonight when NBC tried to nail him on the Texas death penalty. NBC was shocked by the applause backing Perry and Texas on the issue. Perry did not enamor himself with any retiree when talking about Social Security being a Ponzi Scheme. Over all, good debate, although Ronald Reagan probably rolled over tonight, because he obviously was the only liberal in the area.....

There doesn't appear to be that much interest in your topic... I bet Pres. Obama's speech will draw a lot more interest tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow this board will be all "Who Let The Dogs Out"...

I watched the first few minutes and then switched to the Red Sox vs Blue Jays game instead.
But what I did watch was pure nonsense when our country is in a crisis you have these republicans arguing about minutia or trivia...or beating up on each other or their records in the Reagan Library named after a President who didn't believe in republicans lambasting each other..

The debate for the most part was the Perry and Mitt show. I don't think either gained any ground or lost any. I was not concerned about the ponzi scheme comment because it seems that in part what it has become. I expect not much new from Obama tomorrow night. he seems to have a one track mind and it will be the same old thing that won't work. But being optimistic maybe he will bring something new to the table. I hope so.

Santorum got the "Catholic question", but nothing for Mitt on Morman religion. Actually, come to think of it, there was really nothing said about religion, and Republican party. Nothing on homosexuality issues. A little something on illegal immigration, but most said close the borders before we do anything about the illlegals....... Sounds like we have to wait until the fall election next year to really get the blood boiling. There was a lot said about President Obama being a nice guy, and likeable, but way over his head, and has to be beaten in 2012.

Maybe that is the problem ... politics should have NOTHING to do with personal religious choices or sexual choices

MSNBC Rachel Maddow Show is now reviewing the debate and lambasting the participants..
Needless to say Rachel and her two guests had nothing good to say about any of the republicans and were especially critical or Rick Perry..

'pears to me .. that is more a a statement about the dimbulb candidates than it does about Maddow .. if that was your suggestion?

Maddow, and her guests...O'Donnell, Sharpton, Schultz, were not too impressed...
They didn't like any of the eight candidates and think Ron Paul has to go..

Perry did not enamor himself with any retiree when talking about Social Security being a Ponzi Scheme. Ponzi scheme: A fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to separate investors, not from any actual profit earned by the organization, but from their own money or money paid by subsequent investors. Whether you hate Social Insecurity or love it, it sounds like Perry is right about it being a ponzi scheme. Wow....that's shocking.

I know but was curious about what Ed Schultz, and Rachel Maddow would have to say about the eight republicans last night. You can bet that for most of today the so called "Political Talking Heads" on MSNBC will be doing their thing and trying to destroy the front runners among the Republican field, Romney and Perry... But you can bet when the winner for the debate last night is announced today he or she will be Target #1 for the Liberal Media and the Liberal Elites And hyping up Obama's speech tonight before Congress..

Whether it's Hannity or Maddow, about the only people any of these political talking heads will sway (if you can call it that) are the ones that would never vote across party lines anyway. IOW, for those that like to form their own opinions rather than have them spoon-fed, it matters not what any of them have to say.

I assume many of the liberal persuasion here, did not bother watching last night. Kind of surprised, because your next President spoke to the nation last night. You should pay a little more attention. I admit the field has to lose a couple of people now, to drown out some of the background noise, so we can get down to business on the talking points.

Ron Paul..........scary. He is ok if you want the USA to look like a third world banana Republic, otherwise, we have to go with someone else, politically. He might make a good Fed Chairman, if he could run it his way, without interference.

The Reverend Al Sharpton is becoming very critical of President Barrack Obama and like Congresswoman Maxine Waters wants Obama to spend whatever it takes to get his constituents back to work....

I assume many of the liberal persuasion here, did not bother watching last night. Kind of surprised, because your next President spoke to the nation last night. My choice, Gary Johnson, is being shut out (must be scaring the hell out of the RINO republican establishment or something) and I don't get a vote in the primaries anyway. So, until republicans pick which clown they want to run against the democrat clown, it does me absolutely no good to get caught up n the mud slinging. So, mark one of the conservative persuasion that didn't waste their time watching it. When the GOP candidates debate tonight, long-shots like Georgia businessman Herman Cain and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum will be on stage answering questions. But even if Texas Gov. Rick Perry pulls out at the last minute to attend to the wildfires ravaging his state, leaving an empty microphone, debate sponsors NBC News and Politico won't make room for Gary Johnson, who served two terms as the governor of New Mexico. This despite the fact that a recent poll puts him even with some of the candidates who'll attend, even as he's been outspent by his competitors and almost completely ignored by the national media.
Would he bring anything worthwhile to the stage if he were allowed to participate? That's the question I put to him in a recent phone interview, asking what arguments he'd want to get across to voters and what he'd ask his fellow candidates if given the opportunity. His answers are the best indication we have of what, if anything, voters are missing out on due to his absence. www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/09/what-gary-johnson-would-say-if-he-were-debating/244652/I think I may have vetoed a hundred bills when the vote in the legislature was 117 to zero. And only two were overridden. It made a big difference when it came to billions of dollars in spending." He added: "Unlike Congressman Paul, who got to make his principled no vote and move on the next day, I had to defend my actions as the guy directly responsible for the legislation not going through -- and I managed to do it successfully and get re-elected in a state that was 2 to 1 Democrat. My experience shouts that you can veto this stuff, be principled, defend it, and that people recognize the value of what you're doing for the state." Got to respect a guy that stands by his principals and does what is right for his people rather than simply marching to the party drum beat.

My choice, Gary Johnson
Problem with Gary Johnson is nobody has heard of him or they think he's a middle reliever for the Dam Yankees.
BTW I thought all you guys in Florida are madly in love with Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz who is busting her behind for Barrach Obama's re election...

There doesn't appear to be that much interest in your topic... I bet Pres. Obama's speech will draw a lot more interest tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow this board will be all "Who Let The Dogs Out"... i searched the entire AM band for it last night on my way home. it was not covered.

So principaled that he had to shit on Paul to make a point? You really consider that "shitting on Paul? Really? In the game of politics, I thought his hypothetical question to Paul was rather tame. Have "we" really become this sensitive that every single comment is viewed as an attack? Anyways, he's not shitting on Paul. He's simply saying that, like Paul, he votes his principals...as governor, unlike Paul, if Johnson vetoed something (voted no) he had the added experience of having to back up those principals.

No matter who is debating or which party they belong to I try to do one thing during each debate. See which candidates will actually answer the questions that they were given without all the BS going around it & not responding! The only one I saw/heard do that consistently last night was Ron Paul. Others gave some short answers & then went on to other topics...way off question, usually in response to another debater's statement earlier.

Unfortunately, the debate was not carried on any channel in my area. Big Brother, and some weight loss type program was all that the big 3 carried, ABC, NBC and CBS

This is the "Politics and the Markets" message board, and the posters who post most frequently can't differentiate between "principles" and "principal". It would be funny if it weren't pathetic.
