Being the 3rd wheel on a date

Last Friday night a female friend asked me to stick around as she was going to meet a guy from POF for the first time. I tried to talk myself out of it by saying: "well if you aren't sure about him, why meet him in the 1st place? Are you afraid to say no?" Well that didn't work, so we went back to her place so she can freshen up. On the way to her place, I was notified that her 25 y.o. roommate had just broken up with her boyfriend. Of course I tried to get her to come with us to the bar. But she was too mad to be around people (BTW, I had never met her roommate).

As we are getting ready to leave, her roommate's boyfriend showed up and there was some tension and arguing going on. I wanted to stay to watch the drama, but we had to met my friend's date at a bar. Who meets at a bar on the 1st date?? Apparently, my friend. We met her date and a friend (a dude!!! ) We'll call her date G and the friend CreepyDude). After my friend and her date talked to each other for a bit, I wondered off so they can get to know each other.

I talked to a couple of girls and danced with a few girls. Then I ran into the creepydude and he seemed to be scaring girls away. Not cool since they would associate him with me.
I dished him but later on I ran into him outside and he says: "Hey man, your friend, she is hot. Why don't all 4 of us go back to my place and do some lines!" As if that was not enough, he was bragging about it out loud to everyone outside! WTF???

I texted my friend what creepydude said. Later on my friend called creepydude out on his comment and told him we don't do drugs. He denied it of course. Then they left. I asked my friend what she thought about her date and she said it was neutral. She was not impressed but not disappointed. She did mention that his friend was weird. No kidding!

As we were leaving 4 girls (1 whom I was dancing with earlier) grabbed me and proceeded to grind the *(&*(^%^% out of me. ;D So overall it was a weird night but I had my fun on the side and made the most of it. I'm glad she didn't meet these two on her own.

So both people, who "met" on POF, agreed to meet for a date, and both brought friends with them? They sound perfect for each other.

Seriously, they sound they are all very immature. Good luck to them. Personally, I think I might distance myself from the drama. And I definitely would not go along with them on their "dates".

A lot of people prefer their initial meeting to be over drinks or coffee. They say they don't want to waste an entire evening or meal if they find there is no chemistry. Personally, if a man was not willing to set aside a couple hours to get to know me, they weren't really interested to begin with.

You are mixing apples and oranges, and confusing spending money, with someone being interested in you. I think we are at least 40+ years beyond these types of sexist stereo types and roles.

The purpose of a 1st date meeting is to see if there is any attraction and chemistry. This can be determined in less than 2 minutes. One uses future dates to get to know someone.

i too met my husband in a bar. out with friends, and met him there the next week. it worked for us

Probably a good thing she didn't go alone- but still...weird...even I don't take a chaperon on my dates when I get them...

I do however take my own vehicle and meet at a public place- like my favorite bar

spyd, probably 50% of my on line meet & greets occur at a bar. Another 25% a restaurant, and the other 25% random-ass places. I don't, however, wear the shirt shown on my avatar when I go on those dates. I save it for second dates.
I've not yet openly brought a chaperon along on one of these dates ... though I have had a couple friends go to the same locale and pretend we didn't know each other jic, and I've run into people I know a few times (and more than once thought to myself "Please save me!"). You know how weird some of my dates have been though, so anything I say on the matter is subject to the grain of salt thing.

I don't know. DF has a friend that we assume is gay but he doesn't date men or women when he is with us so he is always the 3rd on our dates. Case in point, last night's MSU football game.
