I am sorry to hear about your daughter. Is there a way they can find out if this happening in her other joints, like maybe when they do the MRI?

I do have to ask like was asked on the other board about why the MRI, is this going to show more areas of joint issues? If not the MRI would seem to be pointless.

I have had comments on the other board about why do we take medicaid for her if we can afford to pay for her health care. Now she has medicare too. Well, this is why, she has had issues and will likely have many more in her life and it would bankrupt us quickly. Unless you are multimillionairs you could not afford to pay for things such as this. You cannot buy insurance for her period so its medicaid, now, thank God, medicare too so we can get decent doctors. I totally sympathize and support you. I have a friend who has a very rare genetic condition; treatment is $34,000/month. There's no way the typical American can afford it. Yes, he's on Medicaid.

Naggie I do know an MRI will show things better than an X-Ray. My Mom was having all types of knee issues and had a couple of x-rays and they showed nothing wrong. Once she had an MRI they were able to see the damage and plan a course of treatment.
A co-worker was slated to have shoulder surgery based on an x-ray and once they did an MRI it was determined that surgery was not necessary. MRI's provide a lot more details than an x-ray will.

Yeah, I thought so, just that pat seems to have problems with DD in getting her up and out and DD is stresses about the medical stuff. So why put her throught it I the xray was enough.

patstab, I am so sorry to hear this. My prayers and warmest wishes that it's not as bad as the doctor thinks and for a speedy recovery if she requires surgery. I can't imagine what you both are going through right now. (((Hugs)))

Patstab, I am so sorry to read about your daughter. I've always admired your thoughtful messages to posters with problems. I also thank you for sharing your daughter with us. You are a very proud momma and well you should be.
I guess the best you can do is research the issue so you can make knowledgeable decisions.
Meanwhile you and your daughter will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Wishing you and your daughter the best, patstab. You have certainly shouldered more than your fair share. I hope there turns out to be a less invasive treatment.

patstab... I've had you on my prayer list for quite a few years now (whether or not you've wanted it) and plan to keep you there. Not having dealt with your situation in any way, shape or means, I can't offer any advice, but I can offer my support. I think that what you've done for your daughter is remarkable, to say the least...

PS, good luck. If it is any help, know that we are never given larger crosses to bear than we can handle. Your daughter is lucky to have you.

Pat,
I guess I was a little late reading this thread. Great news that it is just a bone spur and can be corrected under general anesthesia. Have fun on your vacation.
On the Medicare thing - well, some people just don't get it, don't waste your time worrying about what they think. You are right you would be bankrupted by your Daughter's condition. I am not sure how you go about protecting your daughter and providing for her in the event she outlives you, but I think that issue deserves more of your attention than paying for her medical care now. I don't think the government does enough to provide housing and medical care to this demographic and I do think they deserve better.
