Some good guesses, but another two hints are in order. 1. The new password has nothing to do with the old password, or with snow leopards. 2. Virgil has a second password on the same site. It's unrelated to his admin password, but it follows the same rules: letters and numbers only, eight characters, at least one number. The hint for this second password is "I force heaven to be ecstasy."

I dont get the sc on the first Yeah, I wasn't sure what the ending was so I just grabbed some letters out of the last word. The last one should probably be an s, but I still can't figure out the 7th character.

The second one is correct. The last two characters in the first one are incorrect. Normally I'd agree, but the 'x' isn't correct.

Problem 72 - My Brother's JunkAfter reading the made-for-EE topic, the My Brother's Junk thread, I got to thinking about an interesting bit of trivia: What is the likelihood that a man has at least one brother? Suppose the probability of any child being born male is exactly 50%, and suppose all families are made up as follows: 10% of families have no children 15% of families have 1 child 35% of families have 2 children 25% of families have 3 children 15% of families have 4 children Given this makeup, what is the likelihood that a man selected at random from the population will have at least one brother?This question is math-based, obviously, but it relies on nothing more than 9th grade probability. Everyone reading this should be able to solve it. Why do you want to solve it? I will buy two months worth of ad-free for the first person to solve it. I'm not sure where these answers are coming from. Some accompanying work would be nice. In any case, 50%, 41.25%, 75%, 69.9%, and 68% are all incorrect answers. I know you guys are just goofing around before you put the whammy on those MIT nerds, but don't make me nervous here.

I arrived at my answer (which you didn't say was wrong) by subtracting from 100%:
10% for families with no children (that one's obvious - there would be no male child) and 15% for families with one child (the odds are 50/50 the child would be male)
That leaves:
35% of families have 2 children 25% of families have 3 children 15% of families have 4 children ____
75% chance

Thus far, Lassie is in the lead for the "Math G-EE-nius" award. That said, you need to consider that not all multi-child families will contain at least two males such that each male has a brother. You also need to consider that it's not possible to sample a male child from a family with no children, which is different from being able to sample a male child who we know doesn't have a brother (the 1-child case). Try starting with a simplified problem: Suppose all dogs are brown or black, with 50% probability of each. Also suppose 90% of dogs have no puppies, 5% of dogs have 1 puppy, and 5% of dogs have two puppies. What is the likelihood that a brown puppy will have a brown sibling? The answer in this case is exactly 25%.
