We both are tilting.
"They aren't supposed to be..." Okay. Term limits won't stop it, it will just continually change who "they" are.
"...rude awakening..." I am awake. I fully agree that the system is not sustainable. Term limits will not make it sustainable. Fine then, go with my other suggestion. There is no other way because human beings are naturally corrupted by lifetime power. Like I said before, the system isn't going to change, for good or for bad, by any American's choice. This is an exercise in Don Quixote.

State legislature selected Senators will solve the problem? That's a different problem set. Yes, states should have representation in Congress. It was one of the most important checks on a federal govt. created by...the states.

I am not sure how state legislatures selecting senators would solve the problem. Seems like it is just moving the problem from one place to another.

The states formed this govt. and if they don't have representation, we end up with a democracy that devolves into a mobocracy. Kinda like now. They may as well secede if they aren't going to be represented. What's the point in staying in a Union which does not recognize the creators of that Union?

I think it far better to elect one well meaning idealist and leave him in place SO long he becomes corrupted by Washington, and has no idea what is going on down here on planet Earth where the normal people live. Go, team.

"The states formed this govt...." "We the People of the United States, ..." Are you denying who ratified the Constitution? LOL it's a fact that these several states formed the Union. Quit spinning.

Having the state legislatures pick the Senators would take a vote away from the people of the state. Our democracy is being challanged now, why would we give up another piece? We may not always make a good choice but we can correct it by the vote. If a state legislature decides we lose.

We founded a Republic and lost it for a whacked combination of empire and democracy. If states aren't represented, they may as well secede.

If you wish to study a granfalloon, just remove the skin of a toy balloon. — BokononWell, my granfalloon is sick of having an inflated currency stuffed down its throat by a federal govt. that it created...and then having that federal govt.'s disagreeable bankers bail out other granfalloons without its permission, and without representation. Americans are going to have to accept some very difficult reversions to the mean in many different situations. It'd be better to go my route and do it gradually, but again I'm tilting at windmills.

I just see how anyone who is in congress forever is of much value ...the times have passed them by a long time ago. In California Barbara Boxer is a sterling example of that premise, along with congresswoman Maxine Waters....they have stayed too long and cannot let go of the power they have..

They only have power as long as the voters decide to give it to them.
