A friend's daughter just got back. Apparently it rained the whole time she was there, so she spent all her time in the bar.
I can ask her next time she emails me.

My best friend says she would never go back. She had a miserable time. Part of it I'm pretty sure was because she was down there with all her in-laws though. I had another friend who went down there and said he had a great time. To be on the safe side you should book your stay at one of the all inclusive resorts that has the highest star rating. I was told that the electricity is pretty spotty too. And they have huge mosquitos.

I was there two years ago. It rained. A LOT. If it rains you are screwed. There is NOTHING to do but sit at the bar. Had it not rained it might have been a different trip. The only other place I have been similar is Ocho Rios Jamaica and it was sooo much better for a number of reasons. I'm trying out Playa Del Carmen next week.

TD and I went to Playa del Carmen last Feb. and had a great time. I think we'd be going back again next month, if it wasn't for my need of surgery.

I was there back in 2000. I stayed at an all-inclusive -- it was nice. Most of the tourists were european, and they had a very liberal view of the need for bathing suit tops I went in July or August and the weather was great.

Been there three times-great each time. Weather fine, just remember that a 5 start there may be a 3 star here. It is all about expectations-keep them real.

I haven't been to Punta Cana ~ but we really liked Punta Arenas (southern Chile). They have great penguins there.

I went in August. It was hot, which I wanted. No rain. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort. Most of the vacationers were either from Europe or Canada. People were very friendly.

DW and SIL took our daughter( my SD) and her 2 daughters for a girls vacation. It was a total disaster, the two older girls 17-18 and both are really cute were constantly being hit on by the hotel staff. when they did not respond to the advances they were berated in the staffs native language. now it gets interesting, my step daughter had six yrs of Spanish and could carry a conversation and knew all the swear words, they were called bitch, c**t, slut etc.. DW complained to the front desk and they pulled the "no habla English" again SD spoke to the front desk in Spanish for her mother, sheer look of terror. Will never set foot in that country or stay at that hotel chain as a result

Loved it. Stayed at this resort called Ocean Blue.
The ocean water was nice! The people were friend though they really did not know much English. The food was just okay. They cannot cook American food. Eat chicken or fish. The beef did not look right.
You cannot drink or brush your teeth with their water.

I had a great time! I could brush my teeth with the water. We had wonderful weather. As someone said, the food was good but not gourmet. But there were some nice treats available. Like our buffet always had fruit crepes as an option. And there was a taco stand that was great. The best advice I got was the friend that told me to take at least $50 in $1 for tipping. I found my all inclusive meant the stuff was paid for, but the people to give me the stuff was another story. And it's not like you get bad service if you don't tip. You don't get service.
Shopping was fun and bartering was a must. But bartering is easy. Start to walk away. Off the resort was creepy. The Dominican were very aggressive to get you into their shops. They would literally pull you in.
But the weather was great, the people friendly and when I was there half the people at my resort were Canadian. They were calling it Punta Canada.
It was really wonderful.
