See no reason to switch, so will go TPI (long) again this week. Glad to see SBS back in this race. Competition is good! The China experiment moves on. Maybe some credibility will return.

I going to stick with AAPL Long. I'm assuming Congress does something on the debt ceiling. I hope everyone remembers you can change your pick at any time prior to the opening bell.

SRTY - long
I expect a huge gap down on Monday morning that makes my play kind of risky since a significant part of the move will have happened prior to my "opening price". In real-life I'm already in SRTY with two position sizes at 19.0064 (so losing a bit since it closed today at 18.51).
I think small cap stocks will be hit harder than large caps where the majority of bag-holders have their "hold forever" positions. The big caps will be losing too, but not as great a percentage as the small caps. I think a lot of the big money is already gone -- they're not the type to keep their arms stuck down a burrow of nesting rattlesnakes.
I also think there's a chance that Monday will offer some "buy-the-dip" foolishness as inevitable prevarications out of Washington talk about a pending "significant deal" from the Senate (might even happen this weekend). This could put this contest position down by Monday's close (though my real-money position should be nicely up). Late in the week as something gets signed by Obama, the deal will be seen to have been insignificant, and the decline into September lows will pick up steam again. Today's miserable economic data ought to assure further declines as attention shifts from artificial political foolishness to real economic status.
Folks trying to drag their toboggans up the hill are going to get creamed by those riding their toboggans down unless they can stay well off to the side of the trail, going nowhere in the deep snow and the trees.
There was kind of a funny story on TV tonight (I think it was BBC, but it might have been DW) about how the Swiss tourist industry is hurting badly. The artificial run up in the Franc as a safe haven currency has kept foreign tourists away and a significant number of Swiss are vacationing elsewhere where everything is cheaper. One scene showed about fifty tables on a patio at a resort by a lake (Geneva?) with only one of those tables being occupied by two people! Hah, there's some unintended consequences completely beyond their control! The pestilence spreads!

Everyone thinks we will see a strong market this week? What happens if no resolution to the debt crisis? Okay, someone will blink, and everything will work out for D.C. BUT,
I think I still want to short something this week, but have not figured out what it will be......

I don't think anyone has a clue as to what will happen this week.
Flip a coin.
The only sure thing is that SBS will be taunting the bottom of the list!

GE short (General Electric - Conglomerate)
I have no idea what Congress or the President will do this week so I'm not going to waste a lot of time researching a stock. This was at the top of my shorting screen based on price<5<15<50 sma when sorted by the greatest ave 3 month volume. Whatever is decided on or not decided on is likely to leave a large percentage of the population upset.

Frank, One pick per customer. You decide or I'll just take the first one listed. I'm assuming a long position for FTI.

cancel post 14 short GE new pick long HGG (hhgregg Inc. - Electronics Stores)
It looks like congress will probably come up with some sort of comprise on the debt limit which I think will benefit most stocks for the short term. I have a real life long position in HGG.
Without getting too political I think if the compromise fails to pass the major indexes will go much lower. If it does pass I don't think it will have much intermediate to long term effect.
