My Jeep is a 4.7L HO engine (probably not needed for this question)... I have just over 142k miles on it and have been told I need my power steering fluid flushed. Is this something that is normally done or should I just add fluid to it on my own?
TIA!

Also, I just had the water pump changed. Are there any other 'bigger' maintenance items I should be on the lookout for? I had a tune up done about 8 months ago (roughly 10k miles ago). Oil changes are done every 3k-5k miles. I keep the general maintenance up for the most part.

Um... Timing belt? that is usually a every 60 k mile change. They scare me, if they break it is good bye engine. I don't know if you have a belt or a chain. I'd bow to Rick's expertise on this one.

When I had the water pumped changed, they didn't mention if any belts or hoses (or any other general maintenance) needed to be done. I have a couple lights out that I"m going to take care of on my own. Thanks for the advice though! My sister recommended a mechanic to me, said he was an 'old school' kind of guy, fixing what needs to be done and not making things up to make a few $$s! I hope she's right!

You should follow the maintenance guide in the back of your owners manual. I don't ever recall seeing power steering fluid flush in any of the owners manuals I've see.
