ok.. just a couple of points i feel i should make.
the CoC wasn't violated and there was no specific post/posts that really crossed some invisible line. on a personal level i didn't find it offensive, only silly.
but just because this isn't msn, does that mean we should have no limits whatsoever? the focus of the msn boards was the money section- NOT EE. it should be the same here or we won't ever keep this place alive. however people will still see EE and that means that we have to have a little bit of common sense about th topics we post.
as to those who are predicting failure in 6 months or whatever. you may be right... we'll see. in the meantime, if you're so unhappy with the way this place is run, why are you still here?

I thought the thread was funny. I took a while before I posted to see if it was going to be too much for me or not, I decided it wasn't. I'm pretty dang hard to offend though, especially when it comes to sex stuff. But, I have my own personal threshold for what I feel comfortable with and, when I saw that it looked like it would stay below it, I posted. IRL it's like I've got two personalities because I "have" to. My family is very religious, so around them I don't cuss, don't joke about sex, alcohol, etc. It's not because I'm afraid to be who I am, but out of respect for the company I'm with. At work and with most friends, I'm completely different. Prim and Proper goes out the window and I just like to laugh, joke and have fun, throwing innuendo here and there, just being goofy and provocative, but all in fun. EE is like that for me SS is my more prim and proper place, and I honestly feel at home in both places and enjoy the people that post there. Some people can't stand EE because we aren't "serious enough". You're right, most of the time we aren't. Life is too serious--I'm a single mom, work full-time, pretty dang shy, so I want a place to play. Like people have said, if a thread bothers you, don't read it. When the title of the thread is obviously something you're going to be offended by, don't read it. Personally, I think we did pretty dang well. I've read some unmoderated boards and we were WAY tame compared to those and really were just goofing off having fun. But that's just my opinion.

Oh, one more thought (that was all typed before I saw Moon's comment) one nice thing about here is that yes, the thread was locked which kind of sucked, but no one was banned. That does show that things are easier going.

Thanks for the input Moon. I agree that there has to be some limits in general. I also think common sense will guide a lot of issues around here. That's right. I used the expression "common sense" about EE'ers. Go ahead and laugh. I have faith in the group.

... if you're so unhappy with the way this place is run, why are you still here? That is a valid question for a privately run group of boards such as this one. I, for one, will probably still be here as long as there is a chance Tax Talk will take off. I predict that won't be long because of (1)the serious nature of taxes in most peoples' lives compared to the overall objective of "having fun" held by most people here, and (2) these boards don't have a internationally known brand name associated with them.

Apple, I think we would be friends in RL the things I say in an annoymous forum are far different then I am in RL. Moon, thank you for your comments and making this forum good for all of us. Now perhaps we should drop this subject and move on My first batch of cookies are done and my chicken pot pie is halfway done. I wish I could share the cookies with everyone here

I was one of the first to jump in on that thread. Why? Because I read the topic, saw the poll, and knew what I was getting into immediately. As others have said, there are tons of posts that I either don't bother opening based on the topic or just read without commenting. I respect that we all have different threshholds for "silliness." But it seems pretty counterintuitive to participate in an obviously borderline thread and then decry the fact that so many others also found it interesting and have allowed it to flourish. Not to mention complain about a thread that you chose to enter and read, although didn't participate in, when the topic is pretty clear about the content. I don't know about anyone else but, as a unique, human being, I have many facets to my character. I am intelligent, eloquent, and empathetic while at the same time able to be an air-head, vulgar, and downright mean. It all depends on context and the situation I'm in. All these qualities in varying measure and varying levels of desireability co-exist within me and I am proud of the individual they combine to create. I am happy to be a member of a board wherein I can freely give voice to all the myriad qualities that make me who I am. I actually feel more welcomed at this board than I ever did at MSN (Thanks, J and CL LOL). But seriously, it's not about the thread having been locked but about the childishness of certain members that I've witnessed from the begining on several different threads. I suppose it's growing pains and things will settle down once we all know our place and limitations here. In the meantime, I hope we can all continue to try and be adults and accept each other for who we all are...smudges and all.

Darn it, looks like I missed the good stuff again I have to agree with the other posters...there are threads I open, realize they aren't for me and close them. I don't pitch a fit or announce that I don't like the thread. I just don't participate. Kind of like television. If I don't like something or don't think it's appropriate to watch with my children, I change the channel. There are a lot of threads on EE so I am sure there is something for everyone. I don't care about sports or cars so I avoid those threads...

The more I read your posts the more I think so too. Since I'm shy and don't work with any women, I don't have any as friends, but I really like most of them here and think it would be a blast if they lived close enough to go hang out.

Seriously, 16 posts about toothpaste? Off to try to find something a little more exciting..... Apple, I think we are just going to have to hang out here I only have a couple of girl friends, most of mine are guys too. At least with men, you hurt their feelings and they yell at you and it is over. Girls cry and it takes forever for them to move on. (at least that has been my experience).

But "here" means EE. There are other formums for serious exchange of ideas about money. Well, by "here," I mean the entire group of boards. My only real interest is federal income taxation. I have other outlets for fun in my life.

You might notice I stopped talking about this hours before this thread started. AND I'm not the one that locked it. I'm not even one of the people that messaged them to lock it. If you guys get to indulge your disgusting side around here, then I reserve the right to express my disgusted side. Deal with it

I think the problem is people announcing to leave. if you want to leave - then leave without the dramatics of yelling and screaming "I'm gonna leave everyone - and here is why - and other boards are so mush better than this place"
