I'm re-watching Spartacus: Blood and Sand. I wonder what it would be like to have to earn money by fighting for your life. Of course there were businessmen back then too it seems. Some loan sharking, retail, training... Then there were the politicians.
Would you want to live in ancient Roman times? How would you make your living? Would you seek glory in the arena, or earn coin through other ventures?

Would I want to live back in Roman times... only if I could get born a boy and to a well to do family... As a boy I could join the army and travel the world (camp hangers on the female kind at least generally didn't travel with the troops). I wouldn't mind being a high level "craftsman" - the Romans built all those really marvelous Aquaduets and fancy smacy buildings and villas all across Europe... lots of muscle needed but also some brain and management involved. I'd like to be management. Now if you are speculating "Roman Times" kinda in the terms of a RPG (the pencil, dice, and paper kind)... well... I'd be more willing to be female and I'd probably be running the local watering hole/brothel or be an itinerant - stealing from the rich to give to the poor (me) or I be a Bitchin' Babe with a really big Sword and a +5 chainmail bikini... LOL.

Hahahahaha. Brothels always do well, don't they. In Spartacus, all the "working girls" seem to be slaves, though.
