OK, couldn't find wax at Pep Boys (large store) or Napa Auto Parts. The boss said she had a couple of things I might try called Hope's Perfect Glass and Invisible Glass by Stoner. I treated it with Perfect Glass and will test that. Then I'll try the Invisible Glass and then.......I'll send my concerns to Mercedes and then....I'll send it over cliff. Any kind of car wax will work, I just thought turtle wax would be easy lol. let us know Thanks Rick, I'll experiment.

Honda Odyssey - is this a "need to get fixed asap" problem, or just "next oil change" issue? How many miles and have you ever had brakes done. It's a 2007 we just bought it certified pre-owned 5 months ago. They were supposed to have gone over it, but I don't know when (if ever) the brakes were done... Guess I'll take it back to the dealer and see if it's under our warranty??

Many shops that do brakes use cheap materials that don't last long. The "life time" brakes cover only the materials which are cheap. You always pay for labor which is probably 80% of the total cost. Same thing with exhaust systems. Midas has always made money that way.

thread subject reads Car questions - so does that include body shop? I did like the answers given for the mechanical questions.
SO...why is it when a body shop paints a car the paint job doesn't last very long before the rock chips start showing?

(BTW - Rick asked you to give make/model/year so he could give better answers) <<pretending to be oblivious to your wtf look >>

Im not sure how honda does it, but Ford certified per owned the front pads had to be greated than 9mm.Now the rotors should be cover so give them a call

Body shop was never my area, but from my experience a paint job is only as good as the prep worn. As far a chipping, that could be anything from the prep work to what typeof paint they used.

regarding the body shop question, alot of times when cars are repaired its an insurance job, and they want to go cheap, so the shops will use inferior materials-primer-sealent-paint-clearcoat. basicly what that amounts to is that instead of several coats of each they will only use 1-2. and also remember if you have a few "keepers" as i do to use a high quality wax on them.

Thats true, but one nice thing about the base coat top coat system, is if you do get a rock chip and it only penetrated the clear coat, you can buy clear in a rattle can, scuff up the area to repair and finish with the clear coat and buff and you wont see the repair

i agree rick, but for some not so industrious most auto parts stores-auto zone, o rileys, advance etc. have touch up sticks that have the clear coat already in them, kinda like fingernail polish, the ladies on the boards would be good at this

Very true,my only problem with them is its hard to make it unnoticeable. It will seal the chip but it will show.

I have a 2005 Buick LaCrosse CXS. The radio continually goes dead. They fix it and next day it's out. Also, when I use cruise control the steering wheel (where the controls are) gets really hot extending up to the radio controls above so I end up turning it off. And, the mileage lights come and go on the dash. Does this sound like an electrical problem or what could it be?
Thanks in advance.

How long do mufflers and exhaust systems last on normal cars? I have a 2001 Crown Vic, and have not replaced the muffler yet. Seems like my other cars got new ones ever couple of years.

Sounds to me like you have an electrical short in the wheel for you radio, which is causing your radio to shut down. A short circuit causes heat, and could cause a fuse to blow if the draw is great enough. When you say mileage light, are you referring to the digital display. If thats the cause I would say its a problem in the instrument cluster which is something that cant be repaired in shop. It will have to be an exchange unit, or sent in. The whole cluster is an integrated circuit board much like a computer. And chances are the replacement unit will have to be programed to the computer and security module

Blue, Ford uses a stainless alloy and you may never have to replace it. If your car gets driven enough to heat the exhaust system up good enough it will burn out any moister that will cause it to rust. Short trip and condensation will speed up the rusting. I had a 91 Tauras that had 300k on it, and the body wasted away before the exhaust system did. And I live in a salt state

Rick, thanks. I always figured the stainless thing was a myth, but the exhausts lasted pretty long. I sold my 89 in 2001, with the original muffler. WOW! Worth every cent!

I just have a little tip here! If you are looking for Turtle Wax & can't find it in the normal places...check your local drug store. I used to manage a Rite Aid & we carried several Turtle Wax products....along with lots of others.

I have a question...Who wants to pay my car off? It really isn't much now. Whiskmav You stood a good chance of that happening but you blew it big time by not stating what kind of car, mileage, etc. You really need to read the fine print.....

AWH LittleRed likes Rick and wants to be a little helper - how cute. not all car question require year/make/and model sweety. but for your question a mechanical question it is important.

My car has started shimmying when applying the brakes... usually this happens when I'm going over 50mph and especially if I'm braking going downhill. What's going on? Greetings Rick - My Daily Driver (DD) is a Honda Accord. I only let Honda make repairs, expensive but it is a piece of mind I know the work is done correctly. Your answer is correct about about replacing the rotors. Honda will normally replace them than resurface (factory rotors that is). no it's NOT a warranty issue. Breaks are part of normal wear and tear with Honda. Also agree to get this fixed sooner than later because once the squeaking starts then the pads will have to be replaced too.

If you are asking about a problem with your car Im going to request it. But if you have a general car question like why is my car red it wont matter ;D
