Well, the bill was $220, plus the $80 in comped stuff, plus tip, so it was about $350 total (including the comped value) for 3 people. That's $115/person. That's about 3 hours work.
I'm not opening that because I want to save it for my 30th birthday. The willpower issue has been in not opening it sooner.
Well, I didn't cook this -- I went out to dinner last night -- but I'd make it for you.

Last night: Started with chicken liver pate. Then came gruyere pop-overs (comped). Then we had a grilled bacon appetizer (the only disappointing part of the meal), and they gave us a comped smoked meat (yes, laugh) platter (it was proscuitto, sopressata, cured salami and chorizo). Then, our dinner came. We had each ordered a meat and a side. I had braised short rib and asparagus. They comped us 3 additional sides -- onion rings (greatest onion rings ever!!), creamed spinach and mashed sweet potatos. Then, while we were having our after dinner drinks, they comped us these chocolate-chip cappucino brownies.
We drank through a bottle of Man-O-War Syrah (a New Zealand wine -- really good). I had some sandleman port (tawny) for my after dinner drink.
There was so much food, I had a full dinner's worth for tonight.

Um you said you couldn't bring yourself to randomly open and then you decided on the 30th bday thing.

Um you said you couldn't bring yourself to randomly open and then you decided on the 30th bday thing. I believe I said that my original intent was to wait, then I started to change my mind, because my willpower was fading, and then, because I had made it this far, I would keep waiting. I could be wrong. I had decided about a year ago that I wanted to buy a bottle of 30 year old scotch for my 30th birthday. Then I got the screaming deal on this one over the summer, so I figured it would save me from spending $1k on it this year. Then my willpower started to fade.

Could you just buy cheap regular scotch and keep it around until your 60th birthday?

It can't just stop aging. Time affects everything. It might not taste as good to age in a bottle that long instead of a barrel, but it would still be thirty year old scotch.

Eh, after about half a bottle you won't notice the difference anyway, and by the time you finish the bottle it'll all be coming back up soon along with whatever you had for dinner.

That's why you don't slug scotch........it's a sipping man's drink. Followed by cheap booze. Lots and lots of cheap booze.

So how long do you have to wait to open the scotch? My 30th is in September and I still haven't come up with my big to do. Maybe a fancy bottle of wine?

Birthday buddy! Virgo or Libra? I'm the 1st. I threw BF and party for his 30th and I want one, too! I'm not one for showering myself with attention, but I'll be 30, damn it! ETA: through sheer magic of clicking on your name, I learned your birthday.

11th. Virgo. My birthday is on Sunday, so I'm going to do a "celebrate the end of my 20's party" starting Saturday evening, and then carrying over into Sunday.

Meg, I thought we were all meeting up in Vegas for your 30th... We are! But it will technically be over my friend's 60th birthday weekend. You better come out!

Vegas sounds great, but I think I'll be busy this September. Tonight's dinner was baked potato soup and salad.

Ok sometimes divorces are worth celebrating the hell out of but wouldn't it be nice to just celebrate without the divorce business now and then?

So the high cost, STFU...
Pan fried venison, mashed taters w/gravy, homegrown corn, fresh baked bread, blackberry cobbler, Jack and well water.
Life is good at home after 29 years.

Oh I've known some divorces worth throwing a helluva party. Just after so many I'd think you'd give up

Yeah, I keep saying that I was never getting married again at work and really had to eat my words when I was engaged 6 weeks after the divorce was finalized. But I came to my senses on that one!!!!

I'm pretty sure you already met the one worth reconsidering for Rick. Now don't screw it up!! Suz I meant after so many divorces I'd be wondering what I was doing wrong. I know lot of variables but that's just my thinking I'd be blaming me or my picking skills or lack thereof lol.
