Turns out his EX never took his cat to the vet. This woman had no job, never had to clean her MCMansion and basically did nothing all day and got a huge allowance for doing so. So for 5 years the cat hasn't seen the vet. If something is wrong with his cat, my engagement will be over because DF will be in jail for murder.

I take it the EX won the cat in a custody battle. (My SIL & her EX fought over the family dog. She won.) Maybe he can take her to court (for neglect) and get his cat back!

Nope, he got it and I reminded him that he would need to take cat to vet from now on and to call and find out when the yearly appt was. Cat hasn't been since 2006. He is so not happy. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes at all. I'm going because I have 2 I need to take in October and need to know where it isd.

Can my healthy and innoculated cats catch anything from his not innoculated cat?

Zib, if they're all indoor kitties, they should be okay. Should be.

Did he not take the cat to the vet himself during those years because she "implied" that she had taken them? I would be pretty upset if someone had lied to me for years about my cat and their vet visits...or lack thereof.

I guess he just "assumed" like you would assume she would pay the household expenses and all and take the kids to the doctor. He said if she has just TOLD him she didn't want to do it he would have done it but she is one sneaky bitch. Yes, all the cats are indoor cats. If there is an issue with HIS cat, SHE will pay dearly. It takes a lot to get him mad but he is there with this innocent creature. I love that cat, too, and there'd better not be anything wrong with him.

"Also, it is a cat... "
Why do people do this? Why the ignorant comment? Obviously the cat is important to them. How would you feel if somebody said to you about your kids after you finding out your wife hasn't been taking care of them "They should be ok, they are JUST kids"?? You may not care for pets, but why the ignorant comment to somebody who obviously cares about her pets?

I think that is the thing that hurts the most. This woman got thousands of dollars a month for an "allowance" and she couldn't be bothered to spend a hundred of it on a vet trip? Cheap ass bitch. He doesn't care that she wouldn't spend the money on the cat but that she didn't tell him the cat was going to the vet yearly. Bet she never missed her well woman exam.

I would have to say your DF is partially at fault for assuming that a person who obviously doesn't care about pets was taking care of the cat.

True enough. One of MANY reasons she is the EX. But what a crappy thing to do.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one's around... who cares if it makes a sound or not! If a cat doesn't need treatment and doesn't contract any of the diseases it would have gotten shots for... who cares if it went to the vet or not!

DF would probably benefit from learning about forgiveness. It sounds clear that he's still carrying around grudges from his experience with his ex.

He let a LOT more go than I would have but this is the straw finally. I'll bet he doesn't say "she's a good or nice person" anymore!!! He owned up to the fact that her affair was also his fault, that's a biggie in my book.

Zib if they are all indoor I wouldn't be worried at all, If one/all go outdoor definitely possible, but the point of vax your cats is to protect them from random other cats so don't stress to much.

I hope so. Well, we will find out tomorrow. I am sure the cat is okay but how mean can you be? She must have really hated him for a lot longer than he realized to do that.

Somehow you went from missing a worm shot to anger and hatred. Let it go, man! She probably doesn't even remember that there was a cat, let alone a vet and an appointment that was missed.

We have stopped vaccinating our cats because they are entirely indoors and they aren't exposed to other cats. We only take them in if there is a problem, and since cats have to be mostly dead before they let you know there is a problem*.... We'll probably take them in for senior blood work, but vet tech dh doesn't seem to think that it is going to change their care/diet much if at all even if we see the beginning of issues.
(*Exaggeration not meant to offend anyone, it has just been our experience that animals work hard to look their best for as long as possible).

Took cat in. Should have been on Revolution in the summers and we are having blood work done just to make sure but all looks well so far. Good thing. Got his shots and he weighs 13 pounds which did not please the vet.

Cat is fine blood wise but had a nasty reaction to the vaccines which scared the crap out of me. He is okay now. Had he been being vaccinated all along maybe he would have had some immunity built in already and wouldn't have been so sick afterwards. But he is okay today and all is well. Double plus is that the EX's true colors are finally showing thru, as if her banging her store manager wasn't bad enough, huh? Takes a lot for DF to think poorly of someone but he is there at last.
