The President brings the son of the original Mayor Daley inside the White House as his Chief of Staff.
Presently he works for Big Business-JPM. Before that, he was head of Al Gores's ill fated Presidential campaign. I do not know if this is a good sign for the White House, or not. To be honest, he does not really stick himself out in public before the microphones like his father did, or like his brother does now, so he is a little harder to read.

As far as I understand the position, the Chief of Staff is not a PR guy. Thus he does not have to be in front of a microphone. I could be wrong.

no, he will be behind the scenes, just like Rahm was. Consider him a Ringleader in the 3 ring circus, but without the tophat and a microphone. He does set the tone of the Westwing, so it should be interesting. It just depends on the President and what he has told Daley what direction to stear the group in. I assume it will be a little to the left, but lose to the political middle.

It is interesting that Obama would continue the trend of surrounding himself with "suspect" staff members that really hurt his creditability and people's perception of his intelligence and integrity. While Daley may not be another "communist" appointee he definitely brings the Daley Chicago Mob Politics baggage with him.

ever wonder why..either with a Republican or democrat in the white house....economic advisors, treasury secretaries, Fed head..must all have served Goldman or JP Morgan first?

Liberal pundits don't like Daley because of his ties to big banks and the fact he thinks Obamacare should be repealed and he can work with republicans....they wanted someone like Van Jones who is liberal; and who would push the Black Congressional Caucus agendas

I am not surprised. Daley's name has been bandied about for some weeks. He is a money man who understands finance and costs. Much more astute than what Obama has had in the past. I see him as a plus.

We shall see but better than Rahm Emanuel by most humblests of opinions posted here today.... Larry Kudlow is probably heartsick because his name was rumored to be under consideration on the CNBC Blogs

I..... I am considered a liberal by many here, naturally being a middle to the left, there is a disagreement there, however, if so, a liberal, I know nothing beyond that Daly is a Chicago Daly, Supposedly ran a big effective political machine when political machines were all the rage, in power for years as Mayor, his dad had a lot to due with Kennedy being elected. Supposedly if not for him...and having been a great supporter of..thankful , yet when you thik of the tragedys of the family..one never knows.... his brother was the mayor till recently and now he's a big shot in the adminisration. I know nothing of his politics or feelins toward big business..all I know, the President wants him as his Chief..that's the Presidents call so suggest put down the paint brush and the painting of all liberals..even the middle to the left ones if they are ones, liberals, your wrong,,say "some possible pundits" .now that might fly.

if you say so...I think he will be doing what most C of Staff do, run the show around a Preasident , offer advice, twist some arms, listen to some venting fom the POTUS, work very late hours and on call 24/7, carry out the Presidents wishes..and at times wonder what he hell he is doing there and at other times , to paraphrase William Bendix's famouse quote, think , "what a revolting developement this is " ;D

VB.....did you know that Gene Sperling is now the Economic Advisor in the Obama Administration and he of course was in the Clinton Administration. So the assumption is that Obama has asked Clinton how to save his presidency?? And Bill has suggested who to name to his cabinet for the final two years...instead of his old cronies from Chicago..at least he hasn't named the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Jesse Jackson, or Al Sharpton yet but stay tuned you never can tell about Obama

At first, I was excited to hear that Bill Daily would be making a come back. The last time we saw him was on Newhart back in the 70s. But then I found out the sad, scary truth.
Some notes I have found in my research on Daley:
Notes: -Former President/Executive for J P Morgan Chase (it is rumored than he was "recommended" to Obama by Chase, especially by Dimon)
-Vocal opponent of health care reform.
-In a 2009 op-ed for the Washington Post, he argued that the Democratic Party had to become more conservative.
-Worked with Clinton in crafting NAFTA before being made Secretary of Commerce.
-Is supposedly close to Karl Rove, who has been publicly urging Obama to put Daley into his administration from the start.
-It is said that he is already working to repeal many of the post-Enron corporate scandal regulations.
-His last name is Daley.
This is like Bush all over again.

"close to Karl Rove" "This is like Bush all over again". LMFAO
Not even close.
Let's not forget he also worked with Bill Clinton. Now that is a legitimate reason to worry about this guy

I would suggest the same to you,my friend. ---" On a per-capita basis, however, Illinois ranks 18th for the number of public corruption convictions the federal government has won from 1998 through 2007, according to a USA TODAY analysis of Department of Justice statistics.
Louisiana, Alaska and North Dakota all fared worse than the Land of Lincoln in that analysis. "

Liberals again are upset with Daley as Chief of Staff in the Obama Administration and their inputs were not heeded by Obama....maybe this is a good sign he is no longer listening to Nancy Pelosi, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, members of the Black Congressional Caucus, Van Jones, and/ or the more progressive dems on Capital Hill ..??

djrick: Thank you for the article. I have never voted for a major party candidate for President in my life. My preferred candidates are often accused of running out of egoism. To this I have always answered: Do you honestly think that Bush/Reagan/Gore/McCain/Clinton/Kerry/Obama/Palin weren't running out of egoism? The half dozen third party and independent candidates (some conservative, some liberal) I have followed have all been, I think, far more interested in the nation and its well being than in fame or glorification.
P.I.: No one, and I do mean no one, on the left has ever, for a minute, considered Nancy Pelosi to be "progressive." To the Greens, socialists, liberals, etc. she has always represented the entire neoconservative, corporatist wing of the house Democrats.
