My father was a B17 pilot in WWII. All I know was he was stationed in England and flew quit a few missions over Germany. I was a teenager when he died, and unfortunatly did not appreciate such things at the time.I regret that now. I contacted the National Records Center in St.Louis with both an email and a letter, but as of yet,no response. Anyone know where I can dig up any information to at least find out his bomb group, etc, so I can get started tracking down his contributions to our country? I have seen many websites, but having no idea what group he was in it is becoming fruitless. Thanks, guys anything that may get me going would help.......

Very interesting site,I was disheartened, though to see the one reply saying that records were destroyed in a fire in 1973... Most of these requests have more info than I do right now,though...all I have is a name [and he went by both his middle name and his first 2 initials to make it harder] and a country. I will research the site more later...thanks a lot ,I really appreciate it,its just the type of lead I am looking for...thanks again....

If you do know the Bomber Group that your Dad flew in ..they may have a website...with their history..and former members are able to communicate with each other...

My father was in the 390th Bomber Squadron. I wrote to the Museum in Arizona. They had a lot of info on my father. I also went to the National WWII site and put name in search and was able to get a list of all the missions he flew. Also connected with the great niece of the pilot of my father's plane. Of course it was their last flight since shot down and all were lost. I was only 16 months old so I never knew him and had almost no info except what I found online.
There is a lot of info out there just finding it can be frustrating sometimes. Hopefully by this time you have found what you want. I just saw this thread today. Good luck in your search.
