The members of the House Of Representatives took time today to read the Constitution of the United States on the House floor. One by one, the congressmen and women read a section. At first I was ticked that they were going to "waste time" doing this, but it was really awesome to watch. Too bad they and we need a reminder of what is in it.

I want to have them tested over the material to see if they were paying attention in "class"

Too bad they and we need a reminder of what is in it. And also a reminder of what is not in it.

One of my favotite teachers and strongest critic of my performance in high school said. IT IS IMPORTANT WHAT YOU LEARN, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS HOW YOU USE IT. Good words for Congress

This should be done at the minimum of once a month! Maybe it could be drilled into their heads!

ok , very nice, to me gobble gook fluff, theatrics..tired of theatrics, posturing, sound bytes...go to work, and that means working together and solve some problems..or just go home.
I watched a movie last night that I had seen before...a true story of a battalion , earlier years of the Vietnam war..."We were soldiers...". In one part of it a Lt gave a rousing speech to his men..they had a squad out on the perimeter who had been trapped over night, surrounded, they were going to break them out, and they all got excited..and yelled their cry, with the Lt leading...and they all mostly died..I don't know if that was a true part of the incident..the first had mentioned to the Col in charge when they were training, as he pointed him, Lt, out to the Col, he , Lt, was interested in glory, medals. I don't want heroics from these people, legislatures, I want hard work from thinking people to get us out of this mess or at least on the road to true recovery..let the heroics, the blarney, the verbal , the sound bytes be for the movies..

7th I believe, Custers old..and the irony is , there was just a bit under 400 who went in, and they were sent in with no intelligence as to who and what was there...how the planning in Saigon was at the time..and found out they were facing a division of reguler North Vertnamese..that about 4000 enemy... At the end..and again not knowing if this was just movie story line , but is insinuated by the enemy commander that this is when it became a American.north war..from a helping the south against the North war..and in his feeling , the end result would be the same but the price paid by both sides would be horrible. {That part was sure true if that was correct or not as far as being thought out that way or not} The link is a good one...naturally a movie but it is a true historic event..with a reporter who wrote the story present during most of the battle.....you might want to read it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Were_SoldiersThis is the actual Wicki of the battle la Drang Not the movie version...but movie followed closely what happened there..and so few Americans know the story.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_la_Drang

In reading through the wicki of the battle of la Drang I came across a item written by the correspondent who was at the battle, and who was the only civilian ever to be awarded a war medal of valor, Bronze Star with V, referring to George Bush, that I am going to post here...take it for what you want, use it to compare what ever you want. I had never seen this before and the words are so strong and force ful and seem to echo with what I have felt but didn't have the ability to express and be able to verbalize properly..
Yes i blame a lot of our current problems on the past President . I know many are not happy with our current Presidents past two years in office, and I understand that but personally I still feel so many of those problems he is faced with came about by poor judgement, incompetence of the old one..so deep it is taking so long to repair. To me the words written by this corresoindent refers to not just a President, but so many who we put in positions of power... our own fault when we seem to want to blame others . ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"George W. Bush administrationIn a number of columns, Galloway has spoken out against the Iraq War and George W. Bush. In a column on July 6, 2007, Galloway asked why the Bush administration "looks remarkably more like an organized crime ring than one of the arms of the American government?" He further asks what happened to the George W. Bush he voted for in 2000 and who promised to give a government "whose appointees would be honest, upright, fair and moral." On March 13, 2008 he published a commentary titled "When Will It End?" that asked, "[t]he next time that we Americans start thinking about maybe electing someone with no known talent, limited useful experience and an IQ that's barely equal to his body temperature, what say we just leave the presidency vacant and the White House shuttered for eight years or so"

I find it curious that the liberal (and middle - left liberal) crowd all of the sudden is tired of congressional theatrics and fluff and demanding something be done to improve the economy. Where were you for the last 4 years Dezi? That's some good advice right there. But may I suggest we add a steel rod in the middle of that roll to drive the point home and make sure they get the point?

Is that constitutional? Is that provided for in the document?I think we might need a S.C. decision to rule if this was the framers intent.

I'm encouraged to hear that the members of congress can read. Once they finish cutting $100 billion from discretionary spending it will be interesting to see if the next generation of Americans will have that same luxury.

This should be done at the minimum of once a month! Maybe it could be drilled into their heads! My first thought was it was theatrical. Then, after seeing some of the proceedings, I changed my mind. It reminds all members of Congress, of our roots, and what the original intent of our Founding Fathers was for the country. Hopefully, both sides of the political aisle, will see this as a "primary workbook" for their next two years in office, and give everyone an idea, of just how important their position is, and they must stay above the " what is in it for me" philosophy that has been prevalent since the 1950's, and do what is right for the Country.

You really want to stop at 4? I stopped at 4 because too many here have either dem or repub blinders on and can't see past election cycles and/or power shifts. Read? They had to use the one with pictures since they decided to ask democrats to join in.

"...what the original intent of our Founding Fathers was for the country."
Leaving out the 3/5ths clause distorted what that original intent was. That our Founding Fathers wrote into the fabric of our nation that compromise is important. Hopefully, both sides of the political aisle will see that as a "primary workbook" for their next two years in office.

Right here Florida, complaining about how Bush really screwed things up and leaving Obama with all these unbelievable problems so he had to get involved in trying to save jobs where he could, the banking system, Wait a minute....why is it when the bank bailouts are looked at as a good thing, it is "Obama saved the banking system"...and when it is talked about it negatively, it comes out more like that "damned republican Bush gave billions of our money to banks with TARP"? I've been laid off many times and, other than unemployment, I never relied on big brother to take care of me....even when my checks ran out. Yes...I survived fine when the unemployment checks ran out. Hard to believe, eh? Of course, I didn't get to keep what I could no longer afford, but that shouldn't surprise anybody. Of course...I noticed you. I get the impressions from your posts that you believe that repubs can do no right and dems can do no wrong....which is why I believe you're more liberal than you like to admit.

Where do you get that from?..I have criticized the left, Obama..have given credit to Bush for the Tarp..all the experts said had to be done, he did it..stared it..believe it was necessary. That there were mistakles in not putting in over sites to stop abuses of, not directing how the financials, once saved , where to then loosen the moneys , not hold on to it and actually use their reserves in a investment with buying US securiies..those were because of stupidity and being hood winked and giving trust to a segment of the business world where one never should trust one to do the right thing on their own. You bail some one out, then you have clout over them, perfectly proper to have oversites and direction of till all $ paid back and both sides , partiee were guilty of that. The other side, bankers and private financials are sharper and smarter, know all the angles, plus don't forget all the special interest groups weighing in to get their interests taken care of. In your case, still waiting for a little less Obama this, Obama that..on all and everything possible..you in on the " Not born in the USA " lyrics too?..{Love Neil Diamond}

I watched the reading, most of it, any way. I thought it was interesting. How could anyone take offense?? Guess if you hate the people enough anything they do is offensive, huh?? NOW-- let's see them live what they read.

I'm kind of surprised they don't do it every two years when a fresh batch of recruits is brought in. Surely they can spare a couple hours to learn what their new job will (theoretically) entail. If they don't know it before they show up that first day, ......

I watched the reading, most of it, any way. I thought it was interesting. How could anyone take offense?? Guess if you hate the people enough anything they do is offensive, huh?? NOW-- let's see them live what they read. I don't think anyone can take offense at it. I'm at work (and mostly busy today!) so this is the first I've heard of the reading. I'm going to find video when I get home tonight so I can watch for myself, but it does sound interesting. Fluffy grand-standing, but interesting all the same. I think it is a nice idea to do a reading before every new session of Congress, but, and maybe it's the cynic in me, I still think a lot of what Congress does is all for show. I would assume that the reading came from their hearts, but all the posturing of Dems and Reps over the past few years has just worn me out. It's sad. On a somewhat unrelated noted, I have a pocket Constitution in my glove box that BF reads sometimes. We got it at a community day and I should put it on our bookcase at home, but when we're stuck in traffic or on long car rides, BF likes to read it to me. It's dorky.
