Need to determine if a will, trust or whatever is right for us. I don't know where to start, what questions I should ask or what to look for in a attorney etc.. thanks in advance

There are articles online about wills and trusts which can give you a start. The library will probably have some basic books too. I live in an area in which my suburb offers a number of community education classes. They probably have a one or two night class on the basics of wills. Our metro library system also has a variety of courses. They probably have one on this subject. Does your area offer something like this?
As far as finding a lawyer, talk to friends, relatives, and co-workers and see if they have recommendations. If they're comfortable talking about it, ask them about why they like a certain person - make sure they're not recommending someone just because he's the cousin's husband's nephew.

Do you own real property or have under aged children?
If the answer is yes to either, the answer is yes you need a will and likely a trust. You can do something as simple as Googling "Will or Trust" and get some basic information. You need to understand that Estate law is State specific so it's important that when you start the process you're working with someone who is licensed in your State and who specializes in Estate Law.
Nolo Press is another great resource for educating yourself. They tend to be oriented to DIY which I wouldn't do unless I had training in the legal field.
