Update Munjoyhill 2/12/13 $109,982.56 ($155,340.30 6/18/09)
I wanted to post my update, I just took $10,000 out of my EF to pay down my mortgage some, so when my mortgage loan modification goes through it's less.
I am using coupons as much as I can, and I also frequent a coupon site. What I find frustrating is the high cost of healthy foods, like fruit, veggies, yogurt, etc. The store brand yogurt I buy has gone from $1.66 to $1.88 to $2.29 in about 7 months! And lettuce, just this week a head of lettuce went from $1.49 to $1.99. I don't eat much processed food, if it's in a box I rarely buy it, I try to eat as healthy as I can. I live in Maine, so there are no farmers markets this time of year, but I do take advantage in late summer and fall during harvest time. My best find has been Trader Joe's, the fruits and veggies are much less and are good too.
I am a die hard user of CVS for all my HBA items, love the ECB. I have healthy stockpiles of non-perishable items.

Hi Peg - do you buy plain yogurt? I buy greek yogurt, I use it a lot, Oiko's is good, and can buy it in quarts, mix in fruit or nuts or whatever. The organic version costs about $8, but it's got 10-12 servings in it that way. Trader Joe's probably has a greek version, too, and Stoneyfield.

Hello All. I followed some of the WIR threads on MSN years ago. I have been reading this thread occasionally for a while now. I recently read about the first 50 pages or so of this thread. I am purposely starting my race now, so I can give up debt for Lent. I have been paying down my debts and actively tracking the balance since May of 2009, when I maxed out at $338,300. I have excluded only two debts from my list. My credit card that I use for everyday expenses and pay every month, and the balance for my CSA share which will be paid on a set schedule by June. Most of the CC debt is from my wife and my educational costs. The balance on CC#2 was just transferred to CC#3, but since I am going to have some interest charged when the billing period ends, I paid a little extra so that hopefully there will be a zero balance on the statement. I'm really just hoping to get rid of the credit card debt, but I feel that all of my debts should be regularly documented here. While my debt is really bad, it looks worse than it actually is. Some of the credit card balances are entirely or partly currently at 0%, but I put the regular rate in my table. Since this post is long already, I will set my goals and post them, along with some more details later. Thanks! Oh, and I ripped off the table from Raven64. I hope you don't mind. Sounds like a good plan...I'm not a person who does anything like giving up something for Lent, but for life? Now that sounds like a good habit to take up! Vroom Vroom everyone!!

So I made it to under $10,000 in debt. I am so happy about that. I thought that I was sliding backwards because I had to empty out the emergency and vacation funds to be able to get my DH's truck fixed. I have to say, I price shopped online for new tires and breaks and Sears Auto had the cheapest price of them all . On one hand, I am sad that we will not be going away some place warm this winter, but on the other hand, I was happy we got new tires and breaks with all of the snow. So maybe when I finish this race hopefully by the end of this year, I will treat myself to a very well deserved vacation.

Update: A little progress. Hopefully more on my next paycheck as the DH and I have decided that all of my OT should be going to credit cards instead of spread throughout our budget for little needs/wants. I will be dropping my taxes off to my CPA in the next week and I am hoping to get a little something back. Nothing really new to report. Still plugging away at the state tax bill. Thankfully, we didn't owe anything this year and even had a small refund we could apply. We have had to dip into our emergency fund for the past two months because of changes in my husband's pay structure at work, but those should be resolved this month (I hope I hope, otherwise our EF will be wiped out).

Hey everyone, I was an active member but got dropped due to becoming inactive so I'm back to rejoin. Last year was very tough, with my finances spiraling out of control due to some large unanticipated expenses (Murphy's law was by my side non-stop last year). However, I got fed up, spent a lot of time re-evaluating things and as a result, I've planned better and finally got back on track. So I'm starting over on this board and hope to be consistent this time. With that said, here's my revised information:
Re-joining member:

Just a quick tip for some who might find it hard to save while paying off debt: Every debit transaction in my checking account is rounded up to the next dollar when I record it. All deposits have the cents dropped. In about seven months, this amounted to $100, which I deposited to my savings account. I keep a spreadsheet instead of a check register. The rounded balance has its own column, and in my mind, the "book balance" is the available balance. These are my columns:
Date | Item | Debit | Credit | True Bal | Saving | Book Bal |
Also, I noticed that every payday I had about the same amount of money left in my in & out account. This is the account I use to pay for gasoline or other incidental purchases. Money for bills is in another account. I started putting the entire remaining balance in my savings account on payday and starting fresh with the new amount. Since the first of this year, that has amounted to $367.
This has helped me because even though I really, really want a big fat zero for my racing balance, I also really, really want some money in the bank for emergencies.

Ahhhhh.... payday.... all the bills get paid, and then I begin the 30 day trek through the balance of cash left..... where to skimp? where to skimp? I'm sure I can find a way to cut a corner... why, oh, why, do I have champagne taste and a beer budget? *sigh* Is it Friday, yet? I need the Flower Show next week. So very, very, very much. I have a special allowance of $100 cash for it. I'm going to PLAY.

LOL, I'm with you on that, lark! Payday is today, and by Monday I'll be artificially 'broke' again. Here's hoping we make it through the next 30 days!

Goals: - Get off the $300K list (I think this list is only in my head).
- Stop using my LOC as my Emergency Fund
- Transfer balance (Probably from CC#1) to CC#2 to get my Average Interest Rate lower
This was a very expensive month, but I am still moving in the right direction. I've confiscated CC#1 from my wife, so that balance should stop growing.

I am taking things slowly right now trying to figure out what is the best option for me. I was working on paying off Disney as soon as possible then figured I could transfer some money from another card over to it. But Discover only has a promotional rate through March of 2014 and the balance is a lot higher so I am thinking about paying more to that card. I couldn’t pay a huge amount towards either this month because I had to lower my payments in February since it is a shorter month with no overtime at my regular job and I only worked 2 Saturdays at my second job. I was about $100 short on my rent but thankfully I have built myself a nice Emergency Fund. I should hopefully be able to have it fully funded again by Summer. I am very excited to be in March finally because my job is open again which means I should be able to get myself an hour or two of overtime a week this month!
