A musical tribute to celebrate Flex's win (to the tune of "I Got Mexico" by Eddie Raven):
Flex got tired of his same old debt Fighting fires, but couldn't get ahead Joined the WIRRs to change his status quo To kick his debt as far as Mexico
He learned to limit his spending some And learned no matter what, you can't buy love Found a love who doesn't need a chateau or pricey trips to Mexico
Now they're spending light and saving up Loving life with their Rambo pup Teamwork is the way to go
There's no telling how far Flex may go Loving life in O-HI-O

3jsmom, the buckeye state treats me well. We live in the country, which is a lot of work around the house but so nice to have the space. DW cracks on me because I called the hills here mountains, but I'm a born and bred Florida boy so they looked pretty mountainous to me . Rambo can run to his heart's delight. I'm working with an ambulance company until I can get back on with a fire department (wish I prefer) but I have to wait for the departments' hiring windows. jdnstl, thanks for the shout of support, you'll be pinning down that zero sometime soon too. paynointerest, thanks for the support, and encouragement on the paydown plan for DW's student loans. She wanted to chip in on household expenses and such, but I've seen how long the student loans can linger, so I convinced her we'll be glad later if we start right off with powering out her loans. Congratulations on the raises and breaking though the $100K level. redracerris, thanks for your encouragement too, and your goals and progress are looking good too. deepintx, thanks for cheering me and my big fat zero yours is right around the bend. trojen3, thank you for the good wishes. You are right staying debt free is the big goal! seahorse & minnesota girl7, that's sweet of you ladies to drop over for the celebration!! forwardwego, thanks for the song, "I got Mexico". Actually I got as far as O-HI-O Funny it was written in 1984, same year I was born bramoney, so bright and sunny, thank you too. Thank you, all the WIRRS, very much. I'll check back on you and tell you how it's going.

debtfreeredux, can you call them and ask them to apply the loan as you want it? I've had them make a mistake at the bank, and they backed it up and applied it correctly later. Number 7 has the higher interest rate (barely )... Super paydown. We didn't get a bumper crop of tomatoes, but we ate all we wanted and canned a little for chili. I have to figure out what I did on bills this month and update, lol, It's been an exhausting busy season working on the inside of the barn. I never knew how much went into building stalls, but with larger animals, you really need a good structure... My arms are getting a good toning Awesome job, Fflex... Congrats on all the good things in your life

bramoney, I'm cracking up about your hump days commercial... I get a kick out of it, too ffflex, it sounds like the move was a good choice for all of you. I live a little south of you, still in the foothills. Some of them look like mountains to me, too Great update, goalofzero! Congrats on your upcoming post Hugs and encouragement to everyone! I know I missed some posts, but I have this huge basket of socks that I can't talk the kids into folding... I'm stuck with it ... I'll update and get to it or else it will just get bigger and bigger until the socks run us out of the house.... I hate folding socks, lol.

ATTENTION CAPTAINS: UPDATE Muffyinthe Red 09/15/2013 $79,452.70 (9/9/08 $128,662.37 S373, SU395, PRO 77, 81, 86, 137) NC Paid off since joining $49,405.35 Percentage: 38.4% Paid off this month: $195.68 Medical Bills $944.51 -109.00 = $835.51 CU Savings - $1,144.03
Another slow month. We didn't go anywhere this month but we seemed to spend a lot and we had to pay off some of the other trips. I did pay off one of my medical bills so those payments will go down to only $59/per month unless I still have the other money readily available. 3jsmom31- Thanks for the shout out. I am good. Just celebrated my real birthday and my WIRR birthday. When I started this in 2008, I was working and making great money and thought I would be able to get rid of this debt quickly but alas life happens and the best laid plans go down the toilet. I am so glad to see you and all the other WIRRs seem to be coming back from our summers. I am glad summer is over because I spend less. Just bought my first Christmas present online so one of my charges is going up a touch but had to get while I saw it! Than you Captains and Co-captains for all your hard work keeping the boards running smoothly
Congrats to Flex on being debt free. You are my hero.

Muffy, happy birthday twice ... Great update. Just think about how much you've done. You've made trips and paid them off. They would have just added to the debt if you did the same thing I did in the past. I would just think, well, I'll pay it down when... but until we got focused on getting 100% paid in fulls, we were kind of spinning our wheels. I am glad that I found WIR twice . Great job on the medical bill. I know they've been taking from your snowball... Christmas already? Well, it's smart to plan for it now... Anyone with good challenges to keep a reasonable budget while still being thoughtful to our loved ones.

Update: 9/19/2013 $10,022.00 (7/20/07 $33,441.00 N3848)
Greeting everyone, It that time again, update time! I hope all is well with you and yours. Well, lets see where do we start; ok we will start right here. The week before we went to court my other half was trying to get the restroom completed, last minute of course. So, I really did not have any good pictures to show what we did, but................., wait for it..............., our inspector came over to take some pictures earlier that week. So when I got to court, I did not have to stay because he had taken some pictures and I was good to go. Well, what can I say, but thank you for the blessing. Ok, so the weekend after court, I ensisted on going to get the stuff we need to complete the house, well I might say that did not go over to well it seem. But we did go and rent a truck and we went to several of the places we needed to go to get the items we needed. We did not get out as early as I wanted so one of the places was closed, so that means we have to rent the truck again this weekend or next to get the stuff from the store that was closed. No, we just can't do it all in one day, for some reason it just does not work for my husband. God love him. But it is only money and for some reason he just does not want any. It seems that I am batteling a lot more than the repairs of this house and I know it, just hanging in there. School started for the grandkids and they were all excited about it! Just love them so much! Well everyone have a good rest of the week and weekend and until next time, keep debt in it's place, 6ft under!
Forwardwego: I am glad I could make your laugh about the hump day commercial! Great update, you go teens! Goalofzero: like your new zero! 3jsmom31: glad I could crack you up about the commercial! Great update, keep them zeros coming! Muffyinthered: Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary WIRR!!!!!! Great update!
Shout Outs to all my other players, y'all rock! Rocking that debt to ZERO!

Bramoney I love you Yep my husband too, thinks he has a DR appointment this morning, then realizes he doesn't (the appoinment is next week) but decides he will lay in bed and go into work midmorning as if he had the appoinment. Main financial issue here is that he is out of sick leave and vacation leave so that will be couple hours leave without pay. DUH! He and I are from different planets. You are right, gotta keep focused on killing the debt. Praying that November will be my month to give debt a good solid kick. Woman, can I send you $23, I am so wanting you to get that under $10K The grandkids keep your heart happy, don't they? None yet for me, but could be any time since DS got married this year. MuffyintheredKeep up the good work, pert near $50 grand paid. and 3jsmom almost $30K paid goalofzero awesome update, & really looking fwd to your Oct update yowza!
shoutout to speech , and nasagreen who is entering her 8th month yahoo!!!

bramoney, it will be alright Awesome update. $22.01 brings you under 10k . Keep up the good work!! forward, I didn't even notice that. I was looking at the owed number and had no chance of reaching a milestone, but I could have scraped and got 30... Oh well, next time Has anyone saved for holiday gifts and meals? I have pocket change from all year. It would be a good number to use as a budget. Maybe the kids will help me count it. We've been busy with the barn. I had to take a few days off after we did some concrete work. I hate getting old, lol. I was talking to the kids about giving to families in need instead of buying gifts for each other, and they were all for it... But I think they still expect Santa to visit. Baby steps...

Um, Ladies, and now our newly DEBT FREE ffffffffllexxxxxx....its just about the end of September! What in the world happened to this year? Seriously, July went by without me even realizing, August was upon me and over before I could register what happened to July, and now September is nearly gone.
I put my resignation in for my home health job and I am going to put my resignation in for my main job. At this point I will just pay out my lease as the penalty for canceling the lease early would be more than just paying it off. I have applied for two "non speech" jobs...working for a company that does electronic medical records...and if I don't hear anything, I'll just have to go back to traveling. Time to stop the financial bleed!
Ris: I have thought of trying for a second job...I worked two jobs for many years and in fact worked full time part time, and took 2-3 classes while I was in grad school. I"m not afraid of work! My problem is that sometimes I have large breaks in my day which cause me to unavailable all day but not necessarily busy. I have 3 days that I start by 9 but don't get home until after 7 (but may only be busy 4-5 hours of it) and two of the days I'm home just slightly earlier. By the time I get to the weekends, I'm beat. Plus, I'm not in my 20s anymore like I was when I was working FT and then doing 4-5 shifts at a restaurant. Yes, my bills right now are more than my income sometimes. I'm trying to get everything paid off that is on a 0% time limit so other bills are getting the minimum. Plus, like I said, some of my bills are not listed here. I have an AmEx that gets almost everything put on it and it gets paid off monthly. My paycheck varies each week based on who showed up so it makes it very hard to budget. I keep saying: this job is great if it's the second income in the family and you don't need to rely on how much money is coming in week by week. And I recently had about $600 of work done on my car but it should be good to go for quite a few more miles now (hopefully, right?).
I know I peeked in here at least 2x within the past two weeks and it didn't seem that busy but now that I'm on here, it seems like things have blown up!
Forward, I'm going to have to look up that song you made (well, the original) for fffflex. I'm not familiar with it so I couldn't get it stuck in my head. And ffflex, so sorry to hear about Quincy. Good dogs may not be hard to find but when you find YOUR good dog, it makes it special. Best of luck on all your new endeavors and I hate saying it like this but I hope we never see you in these parts again (you know...that you don't have a need to join us again!)

Forwardwego: I laugh out loud when I read your post, It is too funny! Oh, my stars, I love you too, how sweet. Can you send me 23 dollars is so funny, I am just to tickle. I needed a good laugh this morning and that did it! I am putting it out there in the universe that we all are debt free! That way debt free comes looking for us! Debt free here we come! You know when one half is trying to do something, the other half is somewhere else, not sure what that is. Grandkids do keep the heart young, you will see, when your time comes. It is just the best! May your November be the best swift kick ever! 3jsmom31: Thanks for the encouragement!
I declare that I will be under under $10,000.00 in my next post! So, under $10,000 come looking for me. Ok, I am having way too much fun! Have a great day everyone, until next time. I am with you so hang in there, there is a light at the end of the spread sheet!

First-time post. Very excited and nervous to get started on tackling first the consumer unsecured debt. Please let me know if I am doing this wrong I have been married for just over one year. This is my second (his first), and I brought two children into it who live with me full-time. They're 10 and 6 years old. I really want to get the spending under control and get rid of this debt, so when it comes time to think about college tuitions and weddings, we are in a much better shape! They do both go to Christian private schools, so that definitely keeps us in a struggling state but it's non-negotiable, and I definitely have a little bit of a spending when bored problem or really just generally when I find myself walking into a Target for one thing and walk out with a $200 ding. We have stopped using these credit cards months ago, but any advice or tips on curbing spending or on paying down this debt would be very, very much appreciated! Good Morning WIRRs ! Welcome welcome welcome Georgia Mama!
Yes we are here, sometimes the board gets a little slow, but you are in the right place and have taken some really good steps toward beating debt. Do you have an emergency fund (EF)? Do you have a plan for which debt you will pay off first? Hope everyone has a good Monday. Shoutout to nasagreen, hope you are progressing nicely

Thanks forwardwego and mmhmm!
No, I don't really have a plan yet. Do you think it's better to work on an EF first and then tackle a debt or do both at the same time? Another question I have is if people feel it's better to have a set extra amount you know you can afford to put toward your debt every month or just kind of throw any money you can at it as it comes up...

Georgiamama,
As for an EF, I am a firm believer that you need to at least have a small EF in place before going nutso on your debt. Usually $1000 is a nice starter, but would depend on your family's personal situation. If you don't have some money put aside, you risk going right back into debt when any emergency arises. And they will arise!
As for your current debt, I would suggest that you work on the debts in order of interest rates. You will save the most money that way, and a couple of the debts are at a pretty high rate.
Finally, as for curbing spending, I have found that for me, nothing work like cash-only! If you have a cc or debit card spending problem, the best thing you can do for yourself is cut them up. The second-best is to put the cards in the freezer. I keep most of mine in the freezer to this very day, long after my debt was beaten.

Hi GeorgiaMama. I'm hopping in from the Northeast to say welcome and to give you my two cents. I wholeheartedly agree with Rocky. I want to add that you should make sure you have the Best Buy payments planned out. I assume that the balance is at 0% until a given date. Store cards often have a trap built in where if you do not pay the entire balance prior to the expiration date, you are responsible for ALL of the accrued interest for the entire balance. I planned my Best Buy payments so that I am fully paid off a month before the interest free expiration date.

No, I don't really have a plan yet. Do you think it's better to work on an EF first and then tackle a debt or do both at the same time? Another question I have is if people feel it's better to have a set extra amount you know you can afford to put toward your debt every month or just kind of throw any money you can at it as it comes up... GeorgiaMama I "raced" my credit card debt first also, paying ordinary payments on everything else. That worked well for me so I didn't feel overwhelmed. I did build a $1000 emergency fund first, and then put all extra money toward one card until it was zero, and moved to the next. Now I have automatic $20/week going to my EF, and if it falls below $700 I apply more money to it building back to at least $1K. Your emergency fund is how you prevent backsliding. Now I'm racing our automobile loans. When that's accomplished I'll probably build a bigger EF, maybe @ 6 months living expenses. How much you put toward debt is going to depend on individual circumstances. IMHO it's good to power out the debt before the next unexpected expense (AKA "Murphy") comes up. Hope some of our other racers will weigh in on your questions.
