DH and I use credit cards for just about everything, then pay in full every months, to get airline and hotel benefits. We were traveling last month and pulled up to a BP station in southern NC on the way to Myrtle Beach, and found a discreet note on the pumps that they applied a 6 cents per gallon surcharge for the use of any credit card that's not a BP card.
We were pretty ticked off, and stopped using BP for the rest of the trip. Has anyone seen this anywhere else?

Yes...Sunoco charges a surcharge for all credit cards, including their own. I truly do not understand that one.
When BP started charging an annual fee for their card, I cancelled it a few years ago.

Pretty much around here (California) every gas station charges extra per gallon for gas for use of any credit card but their own. I think it's 10 cents per gallon.

I think I remember that the new credit card laws now allowed different pricing structures for credit-card users, so this may be an example. Will have to keep an eye on it and evaluate whether the mileage/points we get are worth the additional costs, in cases where we can't buy a product without a credit-card surcharge.

I haven't noticed the c.c. charge for gas, yet. The reason they charge this is that is what the c.c. companies charge the merchant for the service. I wanted to pay my property taxes with c.c. and there would be 3% tacked on. That wipes the rewards away.
I found this out when a merchant allowed a nonprofit to use her c.c. account for the convenience of the people buying silent raffle items. She wasn't about to pay it.
The banks are going to start charging fees for deposits and account balances below a certain level. I quit my bank's rewards club because of the minimum balance issue. I got more from buying reduced cost movie tickets than I ever get in the measley interest. The news report suggested using community banks or credit unions.

I thought it was against the cc rules for merchants to bill more for using a cc. However, in a weird way around this, it is allowed to give a discount for cash payments. Makes no sense to me since the result is the same, but it seems to be a matter of wording on whether it is allowed.
