If President Obama gets away with his threat to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling by 'executive order' in violation of Article I, Section VII of the United States Constitution; Will it stand to reason then that President Bachmann will have the power to unilaterally make budget cuts? Chew on that for a minute or two, lefties. ;D

Here is a quote from 2007: "On January 20th, 2009, if George Bush and Dick Cheney are not appropriately held to account this Administration will hand off a toolbox with more powers than any President has ever had, more powers than the founders could have imagined. And that box may be handed to Hillary Clinton or it may be handed to Mitt Romney or Barack Obama or someone else. But whoever gets it, one of the things we know about power is that people don't give away the tools." — John Nichols www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/07132007/profile.html The Presidency (not simply President Obama) is out of control . Until/Unless Congress acts, it will only become more so.

Bachman is a loon. A crazy person. Certifiable. In line for a pink slip. 5150.
Republican's think she's the best thing since sliced bread and want to put her in office.
Chew on that.

I'm sorry... is raising the debt ceiling synonymous with unilaterally passing the budget?

President Bachmann? ? Surely you cannot be serious?? Everytime this Congresswoman says something within a matter of minutes the Liberal Media issues a retraction here is just a few of several examples of what I am trying to say: Bachmann said recently "that is sad that Obama released all of the oil from the strategic oil reserve "when in fact he only released @4% of the 727 million barrels that the US has in storage.. She also keeps saying "that Obama has made our recession much, much worse and for this he will be a one term president" But even a dumb old jock like Yours Truly knows that the recession ended in 2009 and the economy is adding jobs but at a slower rate than he expected.. She also lambasted Obama for stopping oil drilling offshore or in Alaska but that may not be 100% accurate because oil drilling off shore is ongoing..

"...the power to unilaterally make budget cuts..." Impoundment of Appropriated Funds In his Third Annual Message to Congress, President Jefferson established the first faint outline of what years later became a major controversy. Reporting that $50,000 in funds which Congress had appropriated for fifteen gunboats on the Mississippi remained unexpended, the President stated that a “favorable and peaceful turn of affairs on the Mississippi rendered an immediate execution of the law unnecessary... .” But he was not refusing to expend the money, only delaying action to obtain improved gunboats; a year later, he told Congress that the money was being spent and gun-boats were being obtained.628 A few other instances of deferrals or refusals to spend occurred in the Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries, but it was only with the Administration of President Franklin Roosevelt that a President refused to spend moneys for the purposes appropriated. Succeeding Presidents expanded upon these precedents, and in the Nixon Administration a well-formulated plan of impoundments was executed in order to reduce public spending and to negate programs established by congressional legislation.629 Impoundment630 was defended by Administration spokesmen as being a power derived from the President’s executive powers and particularly from his obligation to see to the faithful execution of the laws, i.e., his discretion in the manner of execution. The President, the argument went, is responsible for deciding when two conflicting goals of Congress can be harmonized and when one must give way, when, for example, congressional desire to spend certain moneys must yield to congressional wishes to see price and wage stability. In some respects, impoundment was said or implied to flow from certain inherent executive powers that repose in any President. Finally, statutory support was sought; certain laws were said to confer discretion to withhold spending, and it was argued that congressional spending programs are discretionary rather than mandatory.631 supreme.justia.com/constitution/article-2/37-impoundment-of-appropriated-funds.html

One of the biggest "hot potato" budget cuts is the military spending...Dems want much deeper cuts than even proposed by the White House and they are digging in their high heels on this one..especially the Progressive Democratic Caucus headed by Pelosi out here on the Left Coast.....the current Defense Budget which varies between $553 to $547 Billion is much higher than they can live with it and they want another $40Billion to $60 Billion cut or to the level just before Obama took the oath of Presidency in January 2009.. And if they do NOT get their way Ms Pelosi may have another hissy fit..

Gee, Article I Section VII says nothing about a debt ceiling. It states that Congress can raise revenue (tax).
Bachmann is a distraction, rather than a serious contender for president. She is this year's little darling, just as Sarah was last year's. The pubs have yet to field a viable candidate.

Mr Bachmann is the really, really scary one - just like Todd. What about the millions of Americans who are scared to death that Obama may be re-elected??

PI, it is a given that Barry gets a second term, unless the pubs unite behind a viable candidate. Now, where are they gonna find one?

President Bachmann might just be worse than President Obama and not sure who would be the lessor of two evils but let me think about that idea

Until/Unless Congress acts, it will only become more so. That may be true, but allow me to state the obvious: Just because the current office holder is handed the office in unsatisfactory condition (regardless of who the office holder, or previous office holder is), does not prevent the current office holder from acting with integrity. Because a precedent has bee set, or shattered- doesn't mean a person of integrity is required to keep pushing the boundaries. Obama came to power with a lot of lofty, high-minded words about cutting deficits in half, closing Gitmo, getting us out of two wars, letting the Patriot Act expire, and a lot of other stuff. Let him be the man he promised to be.

Obama can cite whatever he wants- the President doesn't have the power to spend money not appropriated by Congress. If you recall, there's still no budget.

I just threw Michelle Bachmann's name out because I was trying to be creative in getting liberals to think past the current nano-second to the long term consequences of this kind of lawlessness.

If you recall, there's still no budget. if the government refuses to fund the debt, then it too is in violation of the constitution. that is all i am saying, paul. again, i am not excusing either party in this. i am just guessing how they will spin it.
