Just saw this short one..now If we had the $, and IF we could get through all the court cases..and ,ok , ok..a lots of if's..would that mean coast to coast here in , ok, settle for seven , eight hours...figuring some slow down somewhere..stop some where, Chicago for example..hell 10 hours..
Something to dream about isn't it..Leave New York..through Chicago, ok . 21 hours, I keep cheating here, with three hour difference , really nine hours going, 15 hours coming..still pretty cool. ---------------------------------------------------- Asia-pacific Japan tests world's fastest train The latest magnetically levitated Maglev train has a record speed of 581kph. Great - when can we get the government out of our rail industry and make this happen?

I'm aware of that. But let me point out to you that it's fairly unlikely that you will hit a tanker truck, school bus, 18 wheeler, tractor or any other wheeled vehicle while flying at 27thousand feet. ;D

It sounds cool but we won't get it with the light rail nonsense that the government is pushing. When you hear how much it costs per mile of rail, it's obscene.
If it's feasible and cost effective, the markets will create it (at least if the government stops interfering).

Is it being done in Japan by the private sector or the Governmernt..combination of both?

I would love to take a ride on that train. My question is what happens if you lose power to those levitation magnets. A screeching halt maybe? I am sure Japan will say they are safe but after the nuclear fiascio I am a bit skeptical of their view of safe.
