It's a pretty safe place to hang out as far as message boards/threads are concerned.

leanna- You said a mouthful about judging other people. I wish there were more people out here like the people on the board here.

Leanna.... you're right on the 'button" as they say about this bard ;D, we all try to help each other and even tho I don't post ALOT I do TRY to keep up with what's going on. I read about your accident and I'm very sorry that happened to you, my DMIL back in 1990 and now has short term memory loss, and is very very difficult for her and everybody around her, because of it, she has notes EVERYWHERE just to be able to kind of function from day to day and I can't even began to tell you guys how many times I get "what day is this" or "what year is this" per day. But, she can tell you what happened when she was a kid like it was yesterday tho. OK off my soap box ;D Kitty..... got your envie Thank you so much...... the little ones seen the Nesquick Q's and they just looked and had a big ol' smile and said "oh yummm' LOL" THANK YOU

Sorry guys. That thread was my fault obviously. I actually do like it when a thread on YM is contentious and has wildly different opinions. YM gets boring when everyone agrees with everyone else. But I purposely didn't post it there because I didn't want that type of discussion on it and I, wrongly ;D , assumed that it wouldn't get much attention from YM on WIR. Who knew Phil even knew what WIR even was? Emhalf that was a nice deal! I have a deal that I am not sure about. My local shoprite has a catalina for Pantene shampoo. They are $3.49 each and buy 3 get $3 cat. I have a shoprite man cat coupon for $3 off one and a man coupon for $2 off 2. I was thinking of just getting the 1 bottle with the $3 coupon and forgetting the cat as 3 for $5.49 even with a $3 cat still sounds too expensive to me. Anyone have any thoughts?

Beachbum: If you buy the 1 Pantene, it works out to be $.49 a bottle, buy 3 and it's $.82 a bottle after catalina. Your better deal is buying the one bottle unless you really like and/or need the shampoo.

Ranting vent ahead. My niece is staying with me due to her poor choices in life. No job, baby in tow. What a prime candidate for hounding right? I haven't pushed bc I know how people feel about coupons. I figured I would lead by example. So we go shopping and I get my $119.23 shopping down to $27.23 oop. That is buying lots of extras since I have a house full of guests right now. Cashier and two customers were full of awe and praise. My niece proudly proclaims how she gets $500+ in food stamps and doesn't need to coupon; she just swipes her card. I wanted to slap her. Food stamps is nothing to be ashamed of. But it shouldn't make one puff out with pride either. I responded if I had that much in FS I would still shop with coupons and at the end of the month back my trunk up to the food bank full of donations for needy people who maybe couldn't get FS bc other selfish people took advantage. I just want to shake people like her.

I just don't understand how some people are "ok" with a life of "just enough" Yes, FS will get you "just enough" food for the month, and public assistance (welfare) will get you a roof over your head....for awhile. But to not want more out of life just baffles me? It was never meant to be a way of life, and yet generation after generation make it their life! I have cousins who, while in H.S., couldn't wait to get pregnant so they could get welfare and a place of their own. I was horrified! Really? I couldn't wait to get a real job and buy my own house! I never wanted to have a life where I was dependent on somebody else to take care of me.

blue- beachbum- I don't see where you did anything wrong in asking about stockpiles- you had no way of knowing that someone was going to look for an argument.

I stopped at CVS this morning and used some EB's that were going to expire. I was low on laundry detergent. I wouldn't have minded getting the Wisk, but they were out. They were sill out of 5 count Zyrtek. An Off Clip on would have been nice for DH, but they didn't have those either. Rainchecks... anyway, I did pick up four Xtra laundry detergent at $1.49 each I scanned my card, and I got a $2.00 off Pantene, so, I had to do that, right? So:
2 Pantene for $6.97 4 Xtra for $5.96
Used: MFR coupon $3.00 off 2 Pantene CVS coupon $2.00 off Pantene MFR coupon $1.00 off 2 Xtra $5.00 EB
OOP $2.02 which $1.09 was tax. Got $2.00 EB for the Pantene.
I don't mind when shopping goes like that despite no stock..

Beach973: Don't worry about it. You asked a good question and the usual negative people came out to play. It actually makes me laugh. On the one hand they hate coupons and couponers, and on the other they're "wasting" their time reading our posts. Guess the boards are their hobby just like couponing is ours. The difference, of course, is that we actually get something productive from reading our posts. As I said on the thread, it doesn't bother me one bit if you don't use coupons. I just don't understand why it bothers you (the naysayers) so much. "nuf said. Happy hounding--whatever your reason for doing so.

Bluesclues: You are a nicer person than I am. I hope you can teach your niece by leading with your example. I remember one time I had my young niece with me and she didn't want to pick up a nickel in the parking lot because it was just a nickel. I asked her if she would pick it up if it was a dollar and she said yes. I then told her if she found 20 nickels it would end up being $1.00. Fast forward 20 years and this same niece has read Dave Ramsey and has made some wise financial decisions. So there is hope. And yes, I did make her pick up the nickel!

I know that when I make any kind of comments about the benefits of using coupons and stockpiling (on almost any thread except this one), I'm going to get flamed by someone or several someones. BUT if by posting, I help just ONE person by encouraging them to give it a try AND it works for them, then it is all worth it as far as I'm concerned. A couple of years ago, I put out a HOUND ALERT on this thread for a Bertolli coupon. I needed it for an absolute killer deal. TAM came out of lurking mode to respond and sent me OVER SIXTY COUPONS!! Those coupons resulted in me getting OVER $1000 of mostly food items for free AND a profit of over $150!! I asked her why she would do something so nice for a total stranger. She told me that she had been lurking for a very, very long time and that she had used many, many of the WAGs scenarios that I had posted over the months/years and as a result had saved a boatload of money. The point is, that you never know who you're helping. You never know what discussion might spur someone to take a step or make a change. In any case, like I said, I just pull on my big girl panties and laugh all the way to the bank.

Didn't one of the gals that posted a loooong time ago use FS. She came on wanting to learn about saving money, but blew a lot of money on fast food. I don't really remember cuz I'm a horrible gossip (cuz I never pay that much attention to BS), but I remember that she didn't last very long. As far as I know, she more than any other poster that we've had on the GC NEEDED to use coupons; but I think most of her posts were mostly whining about life.

Hey ladies just something I noticed today- my Target is giving a 5$ giftcard with the purchase of 2 Playtex Gentle Glide boxes. I saw a $1/1 Playtex coupon a few days ago online, I'm sure some of you have it. Anyway, the boxes at my store have one of two types of peelies on them: a code you can enter on their website to possibly win a Flip video camera, or one for a free cell phone skin (cover). And in case you're wondering, yes I did turn around and use the gift card for a pack of diapers , which made them just over 1$. It wasn't a SUPER great deal because I didn't have any coupons for the tampons, but hey. I just started a few days ago

Thanks for your comments OhioSitter. Yeah, it's really weird - I can remember things prior to January 2010 completely. It actually makes it kind of hard for people to understand my injury - because I have no visible signs of injury (the "nickname" for TBI is actually The Invisible Injury.) So, I can sound really brilliant one moment and then I guess the next moment I'm asking about something that I talked about yesterday with the person. Or I literally do something and 5 minutes later forgotten I've done it. Fortunately, I did not lose my sense of smell in the accident (many people do) so I can tell when something is on the stove. (A lot of people with TBI's forget they have food on the stove or in the oven.) I have to write down everything now, just like your MIL. It's a little bit weird to write things like "eat food", "brush teeth" etc.

We need a "nod" icon. Yes, I agree - I would just do the 1, because that's only .49 for the shampoo, versus if you do the whole deal it's .82 each. ETA: Oh --- hahaha - I hadn't read further down - RubySlippers beat me to the punch!

Blues Maybe it is time to tell your neice that since she has SOOO much w/her food stamps it is PAST time for her to move OUT or she can do ALL the grocery shopping for the ENTIRE household. Note: I am NOT a nice person. LOL!! Marvholly - it's not that you're NOT a nice person, you just "keep it real" as I like to say! Personally, if she were not pregnant, I'd give her 2 weeks to find another place to live. Because she is now carrying an innocent life, I would feel some responsibility to make sure she gets proper care, etc. But there's nothing wrong with what you're saying at all! She needs to learn somehow. Our country is going bankrupt and people like her will only be able to live off the government $ for so long. And Blues - I certainly don't intend to insult you or your neice because you choose to take her in out of the kindness of your heart. She's very lucky to have you. I hope she gets her life figured out soon and takes some responsibility for everything.

I lurked for two years on MSN and learned from everyone there, Yes Dancin' you too. I put couponing into practice about a year or two ago. I'm grateful for the knowledge.[/quote] dogmom: And we're all so glad you came out of lurking mode to join us. The success on this thread totally depends on networking, sharing information, trading coupons, etc., especially these days as the deals just aren't as good as they used to be. The more eyes and ears we have out there, the better for everyone. I just took a look-see at frugalsuz's blog to see if I missed anything and there is absolutely NOTHING to get really excited about. It's a real bummer. So my "big deal" this week will be Stolichnaya vodka (1.75 ltr/$17.49). I will be stockpiling at least a half a dozen bottles cuz I have not seen it this cheap in years.

BluesClues - I'm guessing your niece is fairly young? A person doesn't change overnight...so if you have the patience for it, just keep doing what you're doing. You may deeply influence her, but it will probably take both a lot of time and patience on your part. And, you may not even see the results of your work until many years later. For some people, it takes a long time for things to sink in. People generally have to see things over & over until they sink in. And it's probably good for her not just to see you shopping & saving money, but for you also to explain to her what you do with that money you saved. We all have a finite amount of resources. Right now, she feels like she's got unlimited resources, but she's going to have to pay rent eventually (I'm presuming you're not planning to put her up for the rest of her life.) So she has a lot to learn and I hope & pray for you to have the patience & fortitude to teach it to her. It is VERY hard to deal with that type of entitlement attitude. PS Nice shopping trip!

I just started a few days ago Good job MaryJane - using the gc for diapers is great - that's a necessity and that's exactly the idea we go with here. We try to use rewards we've earned towards the basics.

Yeah, DancinMama, I also am not too excited about this weekends deals. I don't even see myself rushing out on Sunday to go to RA, like I often do. But, next week, 7/10, there's going to be a good deal on Softsoap bodywash, so that's what I'm waiting for!

Right now I'm out of WAGs (holding no RRs) and RA (holding no UPs). Rite Aid doesn't bother me too much because it is across town and, in general, a bit of a PITA; but I sure would love another great RR deal. I kind of miss seeing the staff if I'm outta there for too long.
