Just reading an article in a magazine left sitting in my office on "Why You Need to Try Pressed Juice" followed up by the recommendation: "Created in 1934 and used by most pressed-juice bars, The Norwalk applies 1,000 pounds of pressure to everything from apples to kale" so, I visited the site www.norwalkjuicers.com and discovered a $2,395 juicer... Um...NOT! MAYBE if I owned a 'juice bar' - but probably not even then. And certainly not to "try" pressed juice.

I've heard good things about Jack LaLanne's juicer, and it can be yours for 3 easy payments of $39.95!

What's wrong with buying a half gallon of Tropicana for $2.99?

...:::"MAYBE if I owned a 'juice bar' - but probably not even then. And certainly not to "try" pressed juice.":::... Such is the difference between equipment meant for single-serving home use, and constant industrial use. I have a $50 waring pro belgian waffle maker that makes waffles for DF and I. The same machine, but graded for industrial use (think, running from 6am to 9am every day in a hotel) is over $800. Same thing with espresso machines. One of those counter-sized behemoths at Starbucks costs $3k at least. I have a Vita-mix, which is the rolls-royce of blenders. That thing purees! My smoothies are smooth as silk now. But a $150 cuisinart blender would be almost just as good. ETA: Paul, you should start putting those juicers in your rentals

1,000 pounds of pressure. Easy physics to make that application...
When you apply a force to a solid object, the pressure is defined as the force applied divided by the area of application. The equation for pressure is:
P = F/A
where
P is the pressure F is the applied force A is the surface area where the force is applied F/A is F divided by A

An average shoe distributes the weight of the person over 20 square inches. Thus, a 100-pound person applies 100/20 = 5 pounds per square inch on the floor.
Since a spike-heel is only 0.25 square inches, the 100-pound person would be applying 100/0.25 = 400 pounds per square inch on the floor at the heel

Spike-heel juicing... sounds like a fetish video. I've got spiky shoes, I'll stomp some oranges for $2400!

That would be 1600 pounds per sq inch. (Substantially more than on elephant, BTW

Me too. But it's not that small if you're only 5'0" to begin with (hence the spiky shoes!)

What's wrong with buying a half gallon of Tropicana for $2.99? This is a great point. Just think about it: I'm 40. If we assume I'm going to live to the ripe old age of 71, and I limit my intake purely to OJ, consume 8 oz. a day (1 serving) at a cost of $0.37 cents a serving (assuming the price doesn't rise) then that's a cost of $4,187. My juice is limited to a serving a day, and it's limited to OJ-- or some other pastuerized juice that's also 37 cents a serving-- but I get a serving of juice every day for that. With the juicer, I'd be spending $2,395 BEFORE I GET ANY JUICE, and it's $2,395 in TODAY'S Dollars. Over time, even if the actual dollar cost rises, in 20 years or so even at $1.00 a serving, my real cost has likely gone DOWN.

Even if there's some marginal benefit the claims of which "have not been evaluated by the FDA" of fresh, unpastuerized juice- there's no way to justify the $2,400 up front for juice. I didn't even look into the shipping.

Awesome. I'll take one of those to go along with an espresso maker that costs $1,100. Those two and some toast will be breakfast for me.

We've got 2 juicers. A hand crank one that deals ok with the wheatgrass for DH and an electric one that can't cope with wheatgrass. I think the 2 together cost around $150.

I drink at LEAST 8 oz. a day. I like OJ in the morning and V8 in the afternoons.

I don't understand the obsession with juicing. First off, stop drinking your calories. Plus, if you really want the nutrition - eat the fruit! I mean, do people hate fruit so much that they can't eat it at all - but you can drink it?
Jamba Juice drinks have like 400+ calories in it. Do you know how much actual food I can eat before I get to 400 calories? Sheesh! I can get all sorts of nutrition for that!
