I took DD1 to the airport this morning. I had a wonderful time with her while she was here. Last night we talked until 11 or so, and I wish she could stay longer. This was a much needed break for her, as living in Boston is such a huge climate adjustment after living in FL for nearly her whole life. She is trying to figure out ways to cope with lack of motivation due to the colder weather and longer period of darkness compared to here. She is going to try to come down during her spring break to do a workshop at her alma mater, which should help break up the winter/early spring dismal weather. I am so glad I have a great relationship with my girls!

Trust me...they grow out of it. Mine are 22 & 23, and have their heads screwed on way better than most of their peers.
I was so worried about my youngest for a long time, because she just wasn't getting it together, but she figured some things out for her self via trial and error, as it should be, and she is a Licensed Massage Therapist now. My oldest is in Grad School in Boston for Fine Arts. She only needs to be there for another 2-1/2 years for her MFA and she will start looking around for positions as a Professor. Good chance she will end up back in FL or in CA.

I start classes on Monday, and I opted to take 3 this semester. I am also working full time, and I want to start figuring out an exercise regimen, so my time here is going to be really limited, because I really need to improve my time management.
ETA: The best thing you can do is keep the lines of communication open with your DD.

You are very welcome.
I am a 1st time college student as of summer 2009, and it felt scary to get started, but now I just love it, and discovered how much I love math, which is something I hated and did not understand in high school.

daffy87 daphne87 just remember that they all grow up and we do survive in spite of them! I tried to remember as each of mine went through the immature and selfish part what I was like at their ages. It helped some because I was just like them Cheesy...would you at least post a "good morning" every day in the coffee shop? It would help us with separation anxiety.

Cheesy, mine went through the selfish immature, "are you ever goning to grow up" stages too. They're fine now, but we had the rough times.
I'm glad you have a good relationship with your girls, I really do cherish my time with my kids, especially since DS is getting ready to leave for Australia for 3 years. It makes me sad, but he needs to do this.

Jan, there really is a great deal of parental satisfaction when you see your kids doing most of the right stuff when they get to adulthood.

I was scared to death when I found out I was pregnant with a little girl for my second. I would have been completely happy with just boys! But I guess I'll manage to live through the ages from 12-20. Glad to hear that you have such a good relationship with your DD!

Cheesy, glad her visit went well! I was a dumb shit when I was a teen and really matured and appreciated my parents when I went to college. There is hope for all of you with little girls!

Glad to hear that you have such a good relationship with your DD! Having raised girls, I really don't know what I would do with a boy. I am kind of glad my stepson was already 7 when I married DH, and he is a real sweetheart. One of the nicest boys I know of! Meghan, life really does have a way of teaching us how much our parents ( for the most part ) mean to us. It just takes some being-on-your-own life experiences to realize it.

Boston is one of my absolute favorite cities!! There is so much to do there.
Cheesy - Is your DD hooked up with a group of friends so she has people to hang with (even if they are doing nothing)? I think it would help her motivation if she had some activities going outside of school -- even if it's volunteering at the performing arts center (like as an usher) or stuff like that.
Also she needs to learn to love coffee (or find something else she likes that coffee shops serve). Boston seems to run a close second to Seattle's coffee love!
And does she have the right winter gear for trailing around Boston? Winter gear bought in FL might not be heavy weight enough for Boston temperatures - brrrrrrr.

even if it's volunteering at the performing arts centerDD is a performance artist. The darn girl does not know how NOT to be busy. She is just having a hard time getting motivated to get up and out even when she knows she has to. She has to manage her time a lot differently now that it is too cold to bike to where she needs to go. I think some of her issue is that she has always been able to control what she does when, and now she has to rely on either foot power which takes longer and/or the public transportation. ETA: Yes to all of the your suggestions/ideas. She is even in a new relationship since moving there in August.

Cheesey, I am planning to get over there sometime this month, and also in March for my niece's wedding. I'll let you know when, so we can plan something. Even if it's just a quick lunch; I feel the need for Greek! (And the rest of y'all....don't misread that to think I said, "I feel the need for A Greek. All that ouzo, metaxa and raki would be too much. )

I have raised 3 girls and 1 boy. I am close to all my kids now. There were many rough times but eventually they grow up , move out , get married and have children and now I am the smartest mother ever! haha! I enjoyed my kids and was super involved with them and all their activities, it has been really hard to be an empty nester. My son does live near by, actually right near by( he bought Grandma's house next door)! And I see and talk to him often. The girls call or text me just about everyday.
