I've decided to restart my gym membership, which has been on hold since I had my surgery in Feb. However, there are alternatives that I need to work through my brain.
My gym membership is $39/mo. It's a good facility, I always have access to equipment, decent classes and I'm comfortable there. However, the gym is about 3 miles down an utterly miserable road to drive between 6-9 am and 4-6 pm. What I do is bug out of work around 3:30 and when I leave around 6, I'm going the opposite direction of the stream of traffic. However, if I can't get out of work on time, I won't do the gym. Leaving at 4 turns a 10 min drive into a 30 min drive - which is even worse when it rains.
My alternative is the newly opened gym on campus. Cost is <$20/mo and the building is about 100 yards away from the building I work in. Right now, going would not be a problem since students are not on campus but when the students are here, there will be limited access and the place becomes a zoo. Also, there *may* be issues getting to the parking garage from the campus gym after dark (there have been assaults on campus). Another thing, any time there is any sort of sporting event, I can forget about getting near the campus gym.
My main reason that I keep my club membership is that it gets me out of the university sphere. Right now, I work and socialize with a lot of people from the campus and the gym is my only opportunity to break from these people (even though there are a lot of employees at my current gym too).
Sigh......I just don't know what to do now. Right now, I am 'pay as you go' with my gym (other than I have not been paying and will not have to pay any sort of initiation dues to restart my membership). But if I drop it, I will have to repay them.

How about be a member of both so you can go where ever and whenever the mood strikes?
ETA: That was probably the anti-YM answer, but I don't see the problem if you can afford it.

What is this word "gym"? What does one do there? I would do the pay as you go, simply because I would never go. Wasn't that helpful? LOL!!
