Check out this article from July's issue of Bloomberg Markets: www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-23/morrissey-topples-old-boys-as-money-manager-with-nine-children.htmlIt's about a woman named Helena Morrissey who is the CEO of an investment management firm in Britain who is campaigning to get more women on the boards of companies - her goal is 30% across the board. But she is trying to do it organically from the ground up because she says: "I personally am passionately against quotas,” she says. “They undermine women with the sense that you can’t get there on merit." Oh, and a little side note: SHE HAS 9 KIDS!! She's 45 years old and has accomplished 700% more in her career than I probably ever will. Just thought all of us women (especially those of us with kids and careers) could stand to read about a woman in a position of power who appears to be capable, powerful, and unapologetic about it without getting branded as a "b****."

There is an organization called ION (IONwomen.org) here in the states that tracks number of women on boards and in C-level positions. I know some of its member organizations are rolling out programs on the financial benefits of diverse leadership to Fortune 500 leaders. Showing them that a diverse (not just gender diversity) board and management team produces better financial results than a homogeneous one. They are identifying women qualified and interested in board service and serving as a clearing house for data and names when board positions become open.
