Caught part of the Republican debate driving back home. The candidates are falling over each other trying to gut Medicare ASAP. This will make wonderful material for attack ads down the line.
Republicans simply don't get it. The elderly vote, and they like Medicare.

None of the proposed pub plans gut medicare for those currently or just about to go on it.
There are only two choices. Cut the program a little bit. And the other choice is it goes completely bankrupt and no one gets to go on it.
Pretty simple and straightfoward.

I was thinking this thread was about Victoria Secret models. My friend, at my age exposure of anyone who wants to screw the poor and the middle class is far more beautiful than exposing a VS model.

You think payroll taxes shouldn't have a cap? Blasphemy!! By the way, Obama is hardly going after costs. The main cost savings would come from letting Medicare negotiate with doctors and hospitals and drug companies, the way private insurance does. You put that in the mix and costs will drop like a rock given the sheer size of Medicare.

Lets talk about politicians then. They do not discriminate . They screw everybody. Head of household income down 3% . Congressional income up 18%.

Maybe they do get it. Gen Y will soon take over as the largest voting block in the US. Republicans know this generation will not pay for the unfunded promises that boomers made to themselves.
Politicians are in for a rough 30+ years if they don't adapt quickly to the demands of their constituents, including taking away from Gen Y to give to the boomers. Gen Y has been raised as a NOW generation, lose patience quickly and do not stand for the status quo like the boomers did with politicians.

That door swings both ways. We are just pawns in a much larger game. I am really on your side. We have been sold out. Over taxed, ( I pay enough in 1 year to support 1 illegal a year in prison, that pisses me off) and out sourced. With 51 percent of the population being supported by the 49 percent that work. We are facing much greater problems than just unemployment and taxes. Inflation will be eating more and more at the dead dollar. The only thing I do know for sure is even a pawn can capture a king.

Exactly. Republicans are toast. Campaign ads were run before during and after the debates today highlighting how Republicans are out to gut Medicare.

Problem is old folks are having a hard time liking the pres(id)ent who doesn't pledge allegiance and who keeps frowning at Americans and embracing thug dictators.

Keep believing that. Gen Y votes and a lot voted for "change" last election since it was such a catchy slogan. They didn't get it. They are not necessarily party loyal and will change back and forth and replace those in power until they get what they want.
Gen Y is coming into it's political awareness this decade. Politicians will listen and will adjust. The unfunded liabilities to the boomers that would take money out of the producers of this nation will suffer.
It doesn't matter if I was for it or against it, there is a huge, unfunded liability in excess of $100 trillion to the boomers. It's not going to be paid - there will be adjustments one way or another [in retirement age, in benefit amounts, etc] to decrease this liability. You can't tax your way out of this issue. You can increase taxes but there will be repercussions, some unintended.

The most beautiful thing
The Boston Bruins Winning The Stanley Cup in Vancouver on 15 June 2011 with Bobby Orr being one of the presentors to the Bruins as they accept the Cup...

"Democrats scare old folks every four years."
Both sides try to scare "old folks".... who can forget the Clinton attempt at health care reform in the 1990s and the ads that were run back then by those who opposed it....
both sides spin an issue to make the other side look bad....
