This is Frank McKinney and his wife Nilsa. They have made hundreds of millions of dollars selling oppulent homes to the wealthiest people on earth. All Palm Beach County- all ocean front. For the money they have, they have a modest home in Delray Beach across from the public beach there. He mostly drives a used Yugo. He is responsible for building the world's largest Certified Green mansion, "Aqua Liana". They are also the founders of the Caring House Project Foundation. A LOT of their money goes to charity. We could let the government confiscate it, and we could trust the government to do more good than these two do with their own money made by selling houses to the ultra-rich (Only about 50,000 people out of the world's 6 some odd billion people even qualify to buy one of his homes) and we could take the money of his buyer's, too. But I think we should leave him and his customers alone. That way, is contractors can keep working. His painters, his carpenters, his landscapers, the artists that do the glass, and so on...can all keep working and the people in Haiti he helps can keep turning their lives around. This would be one of the problems with a simple flat tax system. People who make these type choices should be able to continue to do so.

How do you explain Hong Kong? It's a rock. Literally. It's a big rock in the Ocean. It has no natural resources. None. Hong Kong Poor Live in Tiny Cages We were pretty shocked to see that even today, the poor in Hong Kong seem to live in tiny cages that contain all their worldly possessions, stacked with other cages within a tiny flat. Up to 18 strangers being squashed into a tiny 625 square foot flat with just one toilet to share. www.oneinchpunch.net/2009/12/22/hong-kong-poor-live-in-tiny-cages/

LOTS of rich people do incredible charitable things with their money. I don't want them messed with. No way gov't can do better, IMO. I mean, think about it. If it is YOUR money you are going to be thoughtful about how you spend it. Gov't doesn't seem to have that thoughtfulness as they distribute money. I think they spend more organizing it than they actually get to the place the money is needed.

Is everyone ready for the fun part? Because I love the fun part. My good friend Frank there-- do you know who his father was? Olympic athlete. Gold medalist in fact. (And later, President of Bank of America) But guess who his grand pappy was? Ready? Cuz it's fun? Whose ready for the fun? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_E._McKinney

And would do more. Rockefeller and Carnegie did more for this country than all the government has done combined.

This is precisely why Medicare should be gutted and money given out in the form of tax cuts to the rich so they may or may not do charity.

Deal is-- the rich create jobs. They hire, and they spend their money in ways that create jobs. You don't have to like it, but it is fact. Do people REALLY want all the rich to come down a notch or 20?? Really??? So they don't spend the money that creates the jobs?? How many more millions out of work is it going to take to make people appreciate the fact that the rich keep the economy alive and moving? It's not bad enough yet?? Agreed. This is why we need to gut Medicare and give the money back tot he rich int he form of tax cuts.

I am happy to report that many Republican candidates today stood up and openly said that they are in favor of gutting Medicare. This is exactly what I wanted from them. These will now be used in campaign ads.

I'll take this guy and the private charity over government any day.
Absolutely correct Mr. palmbeachpaul. I've said before that government is more interested in their cushy jobs, benefits and perks than the people they "help" by taking from productive members of society. It starts from congress right on down to the directors of the useless government departments or agencies they work for. It would be interesting to see how much it really costs to tax and redistribute, kind of like those figures on how much of a donated dollar gets to the recipient in need.

These will now be used in campaign ads. meh. empty promises. Obama and the Democrats already cut $500 billion from Medicare in ObamaCare. I think if we want to destroy Medicare, we should leave it to the Dems. They're the only ones with a track record of actually DOING something.

Too funny to be "Iggnored." I'm curious as to what you think of Germany: the world's second highest exporter, fourth largest GDP, has high taxes and regulation. Oh, and where's that wonderful Libertarian country? And a real country, not some city state. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Germany

They have a warm dry place to sleep. I've worked with Hong Kong Chinese on real estate acquisitions here in the U.S. This very wealthy family basically lived in the kitchen of their beautiful home. In Hong Kong they are accustomed to living in extremely crowded conditions. The wife had great difficulty adjusting to big spaces and no crowds. She had almost agoraphobic reactions to the lack of crowding. These people owned race horses in Hong Kong, drove BMW's, wore a lot of gold but they honestly were accustomed to very close living and that's the way they preferred it. He tried to bring his mother from Hong Kong when it was returned to China but she took one look and went back home to her tiny apartment and the crowded streets she was accustomed to. I've known life long New Yorkers who've had the same type of phobic reaction when they come west. We aren't all the same in what we find comfortable. One travel show I watched about India was interesting. An Englishman was offered a place to stay by an Indian man who owned a little food kiosk. It turned out he and his many cousins slept right there in the kiosk on the floor and were glad for the space. The Englishman felt bad because he felt he might have pushed a regular tenant out for the night.

Actually mkitty FYI...........London and Paris have done a better job than Berlin luring US investors as the quality of startups flourishes in Europe for the past few years. European tech startups are cheap relative to the United States and European governments especially Great Britain and France are stepping up their financial support of young technology companies while German is slowed by their economic issues blamed on Ms Merkel and her government for the past few years.
BTW my stock trading speciality is IPOs. and beginning to see the initial public offerings slowing here and more in Europe and Israel last month..but LinkedIn was an exception from Mountain View CA
