No one says just because one has years of experience and knowledge, the experiences and knowledge if poor and little then just continues as one puts on the years.
I agree with you, a fitness program for a senior is worth the few bucks you pay for it..to stay flexable and fit is a great thing and is needed then, senior, as much, actually more , then when one is much younger...It does not have to be a long hard one, just consistent..my work outs..about 30/45 minutes..every other day..unless I have something else to do..alwqys fel better..it's the weight , those 10 lbs you want to lose,, then another 10 after that..a real bitch.

Don't confuse weight gain when working out as all bad. keep in mind that as you build muscle in a workout program you will lose weight initially but as you get in good condition the weight factor may go up. The reason is that muscle weighs more than fat. So as you replace fat with muscle here comes weight gain. But your overall health condition is much better.

I am not too sure this is true for post menstrual women or not...they will lose weight as they gain muscle and I prescribed light weights with an incease of the reps to have more leaned body mass...we tried to use the mass body test and Fat Pinch test to determine the reduction of fat and increase of muscle..or better toning instead of bulky muscles...

PI true it depends on the situation. If somebody is 300 lbs. and reducies to 180 lbs and tones the body then true developing muscle will not get them back to 300lbs. however if a person is not gobby fat and starts a conditioning program at say 140 for a women then they will lose weight at first but then as they build muscle they may get back to the 140 range. But feel a whole lot better and look a whole lot better. Plus they can get into a size 10 dress from a size 16.

Krickett: My apologies if any offense was taken, did not mean it that way. I am sure you are the dainty body type. And a sweet disposition. Lunatic: Pinching post menopausal is the best kind to pinch. No long term combacks and many like it.

Unless someone is obese to begin with, that person may well gain weight on an exercise regimen because muscle weighs more than fat. Thing is, proportion will improve and all-around health will benefit as organ fat is reduced. Weight isn't the important criteria, health is.

Ok but the weight gains for your example would not be that much...unless a post menstrual woman really bulks up with big muscles....most that I knew would not want that and just wanted to lose weight and inches...or firm up Also I had a lot of sympathy for older woman working out at Gold's Gym because it seemed to me they had to really work hard with both weight training and cardio just to lose a few lbs or maintain their current weight The key to weight gain is diet and/or reduce calories and increase exercise .. a very simple formula IMHO A simple diet prescribed by the VA is to go green or eat green fruits and green vegetable with lots of fish ...and avoid diary products, red meat, and alcohol. They call it the Green Diet..
