It would have been far less costly than that we ended up doing, for sure. We could have done the same with Afghanistan. Why didn't we?
It seems that USA is reluctant to use nukes, a cheap means of conducting warfare, even against enemies who don't have nukes. (I am not suggesting that we nuke Russia.) Is this wise? Can we afford any more wars? Should we not depend more on nukes? What's the point of having them if we don't use them?

Yes, but don't you think using nukes quickly in the Iraq War would have gotten us the same results with far less investments?

Iraq? What results? Hell, we shouldn't have been there in the first place, so nuking would have been totally insane.
Bush 41 baited Saddam into invading Kuwait via April Glaspie.
Bush 43 used false evidence and lies to invade a 2nd time.

By results I mean toppling Saddam. I agree with you it was apointless exercise. But Bush II was dead set on doing that. So why not just drop a nuke instead of sending in troops?

Why did Saddam need toppled? He was keeping a firm hand on that cesspool. He was just one of many dictators in the area. As for dropping a nuke on Saddam, how exactly would that have worked? You mean like Hiroshima and Nagasaki? April Glaspie: www.informationclearinghouse.info/article11376.htm

You mean like Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Look, I didn't think that Saddam needed to be toppled. But if the decision was made to topple him anyway, why not drop a big one - like Hiroshima indeed. Of course you could target much larger areas with a nuke these days. Or have multiple warheads on a single missile. So do that, and you are done. No need to send in troops.

I know all about April Glaspie. I don't even think USA needs a foreign service, but that's another matter altogether. But what's done is done. Now, my first preference is to cut the military by 90% and pass a Constitutional Amendment that the USA can only engage when attacked and only on American soil. That's not going to pass. Americans love war. They love to kill. So, why not kill using nukes? Why spend trillions of dollars mobilizing the military? Can we really afford it? How long are we going to tax the rich to pay for this BS?

lunatic, I like the way you think. We are being invaded. Let's tell Mexico if one more person is caught in the USA, regardless of how long he's been here, we are gonna bomb the life of of Mexico, starting with the presidential palace. Then we can round up people like Jose from the other thread and make them clean up the mess. That would stop his bitching about his $9 an hour job. Excellent plan, Let's do it!!

I actually think illegal immigrants are good for the USA. They have been pushing down labor costs, which is precisely what the USA sorely needs if the jobs are to come back to the USA instead of being offshored. Frankly, I don't even like using nukes. But I hate military deployment even more. I will go with whatever is most cost effective. Isolationism is the best in that regard. But even Democrats are not Isolationists these days, which is a shame. Republicans have always been war mongers so no surprise there. Doesn't anyone care about controlling spend anymore? How long can the rich keep funding this kind of BS warmongering?

Yes. But what about the people? There is wind drift, you know. Plus, look at what Japan is going through.

Come on lunatic, join with me. I really want to nuke Mexico. We've got like 10,000 of them laying around. It probably won't take more then 10 or 12 to get them people to see things our way and stay home. Then we can ask Tehran, "Wanna be next?"

Drop nuclear bombs? I hardly think genocide is the answer to the problems in the Middle East.

OK lunatic. The short answer to the op is no. Why, you ask? The same reason that the drone attacks would never end the war. Or bombing did not win Vietnam. Or artillery didn't win WW1. Or cannons did not win the civil war. Or catapults in the Roman times. Or gunpowder grenades on the great wall of China. War is won by boots on the ground. Tough SOB's that find the enemy in their holes, root them out and kill enough of them that they decided to stop. The tactics have been the same for 5000 years. Only the weapons have changed. But I still wouldn't mind nuking Mexico City. It would make a great statement about our resolve.

If your goal is to kill Saddam at the least possible cost, one bullet would be a lot cheaper than one nuke. Offer a couple million and a mansion on the beach to the first Iraqi who scored a head shot.

Right idea, wrong tactic. There are about 12 million illegal Mexicans living in the US, that equates to about 15% of their population. Declare that 15% of Mexico's territory now belongs to us and expand the border south taking over their natural gas fields. When they get their citizens home they can have their land back.

Should we have dropped a few nukes on Iraq
No but according to me unreliable sources when Hillary leaves State, John Kerry is slated to take over for her and he wants to get out of Dodge ASAP and also let Netanyahu deal with Iran...in case you are interested..??

Duh, I believe the word is "deterrent"... How is something your enemies are convinced you will not use any deterrent at all? I don't think we should have nuked Iraq. I think that a low yeild nuclear bunker buster type weapon should have hit targets in Iran and North Korea in the 1990's. I also think that we might have considered a measured nuclear response to Kandahar in Afghanistan after 9.11.01

If we drop nuclear bombs on Mexico, the average Mexican will be more likely to head North to avoid being nuked. What is the difference between North Korea (which we don't even talk of invading) and Iraq (which we did invade)? That third country of the "Axis of Evil" is well aware of it.
