I don't know- is this the same Lady Thatcher that has already invited Sarah Palin to meet with her on a previous visit to England? These media dolts really should do their homework.

It's really hard to imagine a bastion like Margaret Thatcher with dementia. I'll always picture her as the strong-willed woman the world came to know. I want to think she still pictures herself the same way.

The only evidence of a possible meeting comes from Palin’s facebook page that she had received an invitation from an undisclosed source to visit London, with a possible meeting with Thatcher.

I want to think she still pictures herself the same way. It's an awful thing to see a person crumble that way. I have an 86 year old friend who started down that road, losing periods of time and forgetting simple things. It scared her terribly but it turned out to be caused by a medication. A change in medication solved the problem. She still walks two miles a day and is socially active in her community. She takes better care of herself than ever because of the experience of losing it for a while. Doesn't want to go there again. She was aware of her deficits.

Interesting....sounds like this could be, or not be, true. Frankly, that nuts statement does not sound to me like it came from someone of Thatcher's status and age. Sounds like a hired hand. As Marsha said, hopefully an EX hired hand.

My father suffered from vascular dementia during his final years, marshabar. We watched it slowly steal the important things from his life. It has one saving grace, I suppose. For most sufferers, by the time the end comes they're past the worry, fear, angst, and regrets that others will face at that time. Daddy passed peacefully in his sleep. Mother, at 89, is still trucking right along. She has mobility issues but her mind is intact, other than the bit of forgetfulness one expects when one lives that long.

Your mom is blessed to have you there for her.

I'm much more blessed to have her here for me, Marshabar. My husband passed three years ago this month. Mother and I have one another, and our cats. We're a family. My kids live within half an hour of us. I'm a very fortunate person and I know it. Without mother, life just wouldn't be the same. While I'm aware her time will come, as will mine, I value every moment with her and am so glad I'm able to return some of the things she did for me when I was young and helpless. Now that she needs help, I have the opportunity to give that same care. It's a gift. It really is.
