zzzzz.........#yawn# I'm here. I'm freezing my ass off in this seminar, which as of yet today has had nothing to do with anything I do for work. thankfully, there is Starbucks in this hotel. Coffee and Tazo teas are always available inside the conference. POM, I like bubbly wines....save some for me! I met up with a friend past night, we were both in a wine mood at an Irish pub. the selection was pretty shitty, we found ourselves drinking the highly acclaimed "White Truck" pinot grigio. I'm listening to the last speaker of the day, then I can finally go outside and warm up. I can't wait!

POM, I would kill for that spread right now. I've been out for the night, and will have a headache in the morning for sure. boo.... how 'bout them Bruins though, eh? I found a sports bar in DC tonight that had a spread of Canucks game too. friendly for sure(I didn't buy a drink past dinner), and I even convinced one to tie the stem of the (unwanted) cherry in my drink into a knot. Yup, I got a guy to tie a stem for me.

Sounds like a good night in DC. Those bars close early during the week! Not so bad when you are being good and going to bed at a nice hour for work otherwise its hard to find ones open past 11ish.

So I found out this morning that the bar we were at last night is right next to the Canadian embassy. Makes sense that it stayed open for a Stanley Cup game. good news too - the headache isn't too bad this morning.

really didn't need to spend 8 hours in the airport (6 of them at the bar - I do NOT fly well) to have my flight cancelled for the night.

Ouch I hope you can get out of here tomorrow. Morning flights tend to be crowded with people going for one day business trips. Maybe not so much on a Friday?

I have a confirmed seat for the 8:55 flight from Dulles. I tried standby on the 6:30 one, that we were told was full when we were re-booked on the 8:55 one - but that someone else on our cancelled flight was booked on AFTER we left DCA. it is in everyone's best interest that I be on that next plane. right now, I just want to be back in Boston - within a short drive of my shower and my bed, in that order.

wow, that's great Iggy! I heard in my travels that the Sox just swept the Yankees *in NY* and are now in sole possession of first place in the AL East. good news - I am finally sitting in my own house. I had to stop in the office to sign something before coming straight home. I figure I'm not leaving now that I'm here. I picked up a small sandwich (breakfast) to eat while catching up here and FB, and then I'm going to shower and nap. I'll reevaluate plans to watch the B's when I wake up later. hope everyone else's Fridays are going well.

Glad you made it back chiver.
I really don't know how long it would take but we have a guy in our Boston office who hates to fly. He'll drive down when he comes to see us. Of course we also have the guy who drives down from Philly about once a month. He used to have to come once a week.
Not sure if it would be an option for you?

we can travel however we choose, as long as the price is comparable. personally, I booked flights because the timing worked best for me. I hate flying too. my boss took the Acela down, and got some work done over the 6 hours. he says he's absolutely useless on planes because he feels ill unless he's staring out the window. me? I need to be buzzed or I'm white-knuckling the seats the whole flight. so, my colleague and I parked ourselves at the brew pub and waited on standby through the 2 flights ahead of ours...and then the delays, delays, crew/plane change, then cancellation. y'all would have been proud - $100 tab for 2 of us, none of it was food. so while we thought about just renting a car and driving home, neither one of us was in a condition to drive anything at 1AM.

I figured it would be a bit of a drive and going down into DC where that hotel was is somewhere I try to avoid driving. I believe that's what the Metro is for and I'm supporting my brother since he works for them. Good job on the tab! I imagine a bar inside Dulles is pretty pricey though.
Our guy's actually coming down for three days next week for a conference. I'm sure he'll drive down Monday. We have some higher ups that just don't travel. Very rare for them to do that.

we didn't get to Dulles until about 2AM - after a $70 cab ride from Reagan, where the pub was.
I will say though - Dulles had a 24hr cafe. when I woke up around 4AM, freezing because I decided to fall asleep under an A/C vent that wasn't on at the time, I was able to get a cup of pretty good chicken noodle soup. like I said various times yesterday - I knew I liked Dulles better.
we have some people that wouldn't travel, either. it was usually those with small children. everyone else was fair game.

24 hour stuff is good. And damn that's an expensive cab ride although I have no idea how far apart those two are bc I fly out of bwi.
