how about we stop the double expense of having border protections between canada and the usa.
come on.....tell me, with all the border that we have between us, that there are not areas that someone can tip toe or back stroke, into one another's country, undetected.
really.........do we need two hundred american people searching cars leaving the usa for niagara falls, only be stopped again 100 yards away, by 200 more canadian people looking to see what we want in their country.......or vise versa?
multiply this bullshit 1000 times across the thousands of miles that separate our 2 countries and think of how much money will be saved, not to mention all the time wasted, stopping someone from sneaking an american tee shirt over the boarder.

The actual number of U.S. and Canadian border security personnel is classified; there are in excess of 17,000 United States Border Patrol personnel on the Mexico–U.S. border alone.[10]
can you believe our number of personnel assigned to the canadian boarder is "classified"? we know mexico's but not canada's number.........funny.....don't you think?

How would you really feel if you knew other than the "gaurded" entry points there is next to no enforcement of our northern border.

would anyone with any brain power at all, not know this? there are thousands of miles between us. do you think we have someone stationed 24/7, every 20 ft, on this boarder line? geezzz
and why would i care? do you think the people working at 'check points' that are identified, marked, lighted, and known to everyone and anyone, would be able to stop someone wanting to do harm? do you really think that bad person would go there to get his bomb into one country of the other?
really........do you?

who is this a double expense for? each country is paying for one set of guards, to check for things coming INTO that country. neither side really gives a rat's ass what's leaving their country, as evidenced by fugitives escaping in both directions. having crossed the border many times with my parents - one carries American papers, the other Canadian - I can say that both sets of guards do their jobs, very well.

If people saw that we had that much Open Border (as in no way to possibly protect it) and then look at Mexico who's border is on 1,938 miles and we only have 15% Air Tight (controlled entry into and out of the US) irc.bilbray.house.gov/news/press-....ing-grade.shtmlWe have 17k border patrol on the southern border that is only 15% Air Tight on who is coming in and who is going out (closed border groups and any one wanting America Safe sees our southern border and should think not so safe) Our Northern Border is 2.5x's as long as that of our south, more porous and no where near as many troops as the southern one has. Let's work on locking one of them down (Southern would be the smartest) then we can go to work on the other.

then we can go to work on the other
why do we have too? just because it is there? that is no reason and definitely not worth the great expense it takes to do this.

No need to separate one land from another, all free fun loving travel stay never leave? I have been asking for secure borders for a long time. Not just stretches of land but, also removing foreign nationalities from owning our ports and docks. If we do not secure our borders when it's time to be self contained we will never get there. I would like to see America actually take care of America and stop "trying" to take care of the rest of the world, you may be our neighbor to the north, yet you are not America.

'both'.......means both countries doing it. if we didn't they wouldn't.
and they do "give a rat's ass" as they do check coming and going......on both sides.......i was just there, at the 3 entrances to niagara, anyway.

I've crossed in ME, NH, VT, and NY, and never been checked by both sides, in either direction....and our car regularly got torn apart in both directions, as do most vehicles containing families with mixed US/CA nationalities. and as far as double "meaning" both, it's a poor choice of words. each country is paying to protect its own interests.

you are talking two different things...........imagration and a open border between canada and the usa are two different things.

No. Open borders allow for free travel between to countries, if freely allowing anyone (whether legal in your/our country) to move between open masses of land with no way to track them is what has America in the shape it is now with illegal immigration. ie. Porus border, no one watching who is coming in or out (just don't bring in fruits or veggies), no way to control who crosses and who doesn't. I personally want tighter and tighter borders, I would be happy if we could land planes outside of American soil just to see who is flying in (yeah I know that will not happen).

europe can have open boarders and they have ten times the risk we 'perceive to have'
you are too hung up about the 'boogie man' walking thru your front door. if the 'boogie man' wants in, he will come in thru a wall, and you won't be able to stop him...........so......WATCH OUT!
i hope i did not scare you.

Your childish and childlike response aside. Yes we need to base our way of life off Europe. The only boogy-man I am afraid of is a government that can give me everything I want, at the detriment to what I need.

what? do you understand what you read? childish, is being worried about the 'boogie man'.
again, if someone wants to do us harm, they will not dress in red and march down our main streets. this was done already and most of the world, other than you, have learned that this is not a good idea.

I doubt this would be amount to much in savings, a better idea would be to recall military personnel and let them also do border security.

Are you kidding me? I'm glad there is some border security for the fact of keeping out a host of US problems like illegal Mexicans for instance. The cold weather helps but we need a little more help than that.

I have hiked across the US-Canadian border (with the proper permit btw) on the Pacific Crest Trail and I can tell you that "securing" that general part of the border would be an interesting endeavor.

Interesting yes. But if we are going to throw away billions and billions of dollars digging out of where we are, it would make for one great "jobs" programs that any administration could be proud of.
