I'm looking to take advantage of a current sale at Target. does anyone have any feedback on the Room Essentials "Fast Dry" towels and the Target Home "Color Stay" towels? I just got home with one each of my color options to match against what's already in that bathroom. my initial observation is that the Color Stay seems a bit scratchier than the fast dry. thanks in advance

I don't have either towels, but the Target website does have reviews. For the Room Essentials fast dry towel, there are 30 reviews and they average 2 out of 5 stars. Not good. The Home Color Stay towels are marginally better, averaging 2.5 stars with 24 reviews. You might want to go there and read the reviews.

LOL...I just bought 2 of the fast dry towels today. I looked at both kinds too. The quality doesn't seem great, but for 3.75, they'll do...I used to only buy the Kohls "Big One" towels, but the quality of those have gone way downhill over the years too. Same with everything, I guess. I have a couple JC Penney bath towels that are over 10 years old and still in pretty decent shape.

thanks, MN-Investor. I didn't think to check the website before I went to the store. I just caught the sale flyer when I unwrapped yesterday's newspaper this morning. those results are not at all promising. constanz, that's pretty much where I'm at too. my old towels are now-dingy white "Big One" from Kohls, probably 7 or 8 years old at this point. I just finished updating my master bathroom to bright yellow/whites, basically that the walls above a chair rail are yellow, and everything under the rail (tiles, vanity, wood paneling) are all bright white. there's a yellow/various shades of blue stripe shower curtain for the shower stall, and a bright white-framed mirror over the vanity. I was hoping to get blue towels to match one of the stripes, but I'm seriously disappointed with the quality of the towels I've been seeing everywhere. Kohls is at the top of that list, too. hmm......most of the complaints about both of them are that they create a metric ton of lint. that's not good for me - blue towels in a snow-white bathroom? um, no thanks. looks like they are all going back. maybe I'll just get white again.

chiver, I'd look at the material content information that appears on the tag. High level of nylon = very durable = doesn't absorb much water = you don't get very dry= towel dries quickly = doesn't feel soft and fluffy. Nylon may appear in the mat of the towel, in the loop of the towel, or in both. High cotton content = absorbs lots of water = you get dry easily = towel dries more slowly than nylon = feel soft and fluffy. A towel made with cotton loop and cotton mat will be softer and absorb more water than a towel with cotton loop and nylon mat. Pima cotton or Egyptian cotton are long fiber cottons that feel the most luxurious, but are more expensive than short fiber or short staple cottons. Pick the material that best meets your needs.
Side note. I bought an Egyptian cotton wash cloth while on a trip about 10 years ago. Super plush and soft, absorbed lots of water, has stood up better than all the other towels and wash cloths purchased since then, which have been nylon/cotton blends, 100% short staple cotton, etc.

I got Royal Velvet towels at Khol's a couple of years ago and I hate them. The first time I washed them they came out will all kinds of pulls in the loops as if the cats had sharpened their claws on them. And for some reason, something we use to wash our hands causes bleach marks. (ETA: these were supposed to be 100% cotton, but I seriously doubt it.)
Mind you I kept the towels they were meant to replace and use them both. After 20 years they are thicker and are more absorbent than the newer ones.. And there are no bleached hand prints. Those one's came from Sears and are 100% cotton. Unfortunately they're a bit ragged at the ends.

...I highly recommend Terrible Towels from steelers dot com... they come in both hand towel and beach towel sizes, which is ideal for the bathroom... ;D ...for those of you not so inclined, I've been surprised by the Martha Stewart towels (KMart) that we bought over a decade ago... still soft, thick, holding their color well... they were pretty inexpensive, too... so, considering they're still going strong even today, the cost benefit analysis is great...

I have these for the master bath. I've had them for 5 years and they are like new. However i went to buy them as a gift last year and the quality has gone way down. I'm not sure KMart carries that line anymore. The towels for the hall bath I got from Nieman Marcus (sale) 8 years a ago. They too are like new, not a thread missing. The thing both brands had in common were Egyptian cotton. So maybe it's the quality of the cotton that is important, not the name brand.

<<< I have these for the master bath. >>> ...we have ours in the main bathroom off the living room... we love it when our non-Steeler friends come out growling that they had to touch Terrible Towels... ...or did you mean you have the Martha Stewart ones?

I bought the quick dry ones at Target a few weeks ago (in white). They seem to be soft and fluffy and reasonable absorbant. I haven't noticed lint outside of the dryer, but then again, they're white.
