Hope everything works. DH's niece keeps insisting on getting pits and this is dog #3 they have had to take to the pound because it attacked her husband. MIL keeps saying it is the breed but I am thinking it is probably the owner by dog #3.

Good luck krickett. I would suggest that everyone do some serious research on dog behavior & spend a great deal of time training the dog. Pits are good dogs, but you need to put a little work into them. A poorly trained pit is a lot more dangerous than a poorly trained chihuahua. And never leave young children alone with the dog.
BTW - pits are good jumpers. My neighbors pit used to jump into our yard regularly & there is a 5'6" fence between our yards.

Krickitt, be sure to get him neutered soon. Testosterone increases aggression.

Geez, I really don't need this crap. Adult kids can be a real pain. Adult kids aren't home with dog and child good long time, out working. Who is home with child, children with Dog[puppy now] but quickly how...and will adult children, you know your kids, take time to learn how to train the dog , correctly...and after the cuteness wears off, still be interested in ..

We foster dogs for the humane society till they have found new homes. By fostering dogs and cats they become accustom to being around people in a home setting and can be observed to see if they are safe to be adopted and any bad habits will show like hating cats, chasing cars or aggresive, which may not show in a pen in a shelter. The comforting thing is that an animal knows when people have saved their lives and are forever grateful and or vet says all the more attached to people. Hope you have good luck with this pup.

Most severe injuries from pits or other dogs were not just a playful romp gone wrong. A small nip or claw stratch is about the worst you will get (assuming you aren't sending your 18 month old to run around with a rotti, where a simple mis-step could seriously injure the kid). A dog acting agressively has completely different behavior, sound, & body language than a dog just playing. Also, most of the time when you hear "the dog attacked without any warning" it isn't true, the people just weren't able to read the warning signs. Pits aren't any more aggressive than other dogs when raised appropriately, they actually tend to be really sweet dogs. The biggest problem with pits is that they are unbelievably strong & when they bite they tend to clamp down & not let go. So an aggressive pit is far more likely to cause serious injury than other aggressive dogs. "Most" is the operative word. Sigfried and Roy were OK for "most" of their decades long career.

Krickett I wish to give a word of advice. You don't really know if it is a pit or not. I would suggest you not mention the word pit around the neighborhood. If the pup should bite somebody for what ever reason and they file a complaint the word pit can come back to haunt you. Handy

A guy out here is serving 30 days in jail for kicking his dog whose name is "Bucket" so the caption in the news about his incident is " Guy goes to jail for kicking the bucket"
