theclicker.today.com/_news/2011/05/24/6710745-report-chris-meloni-is-leaving-svuReport: Chris Meloni is leaving 'SVU' Terrible news, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" fans. According to Matt Webb Mitovich and Michael Ausiello of TVLine, star Christopher Meloni will not be returning with the show this fall. A source told TVLine that contract talks between the actor, who plays Det. Elliot Stabler, and NBC fell apart on Tuesday. (TODAY.com is powered by msnbc.com, which is a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC Universal.) "It is true -- 12 great years and time for the next chapter," Meloni's rep confirmed to our friends at E! Online. Fans aren't the only ones surprised by the news. "Honestly.. The news about Ch ris today was a BOMB to me too! Sad. But you never know what to expect in this TV bizz... Stay tuned," tweeted co-star Ice T, who plays Fin Tutuola. Show creator Dick Wolf is reportedly already looking for someone else to play opposite Mariska Hargitay's Det. Olivia Benson. Hargitay just finalized her deal for season 13 earlier this month. Word is that her Det. Benson will receive a promotion midseason and a new female detective will be brought on board. (Rumors that the new co-star would be Jennifer Love Hewitt are false, a source told Scoop columnist Courtney Hazlett.) Now it seems there could be a new set of detectives at the heart of the show. But perhaps the network should consider passing the baton to detectives John Munch and Fin Tutuola instead. The two are already a dynamite crime-fighting team and could add a little levity to the show as Stabler bows out and Benson moves up.

I have the hugest crush on Dt. Stabler Me too. I love Munch too, just not the same way. More just like a friend I'd like to get to know better. Kind of reminded me of my ex-FIL, actually--the only member of that family I really miss.

I SVU but without El and Olivia?! I dunno, man. Just glad JLH isn't really being considered. Can't stand her.

I think SVU is still a great show, but I also see this as the beginning of the end. Every show eventually will run out of steam. It hasn't happened yet with this one, but it will. No matter who plays the leads, I wouldn't expect it to last more than another 2-3 years. Either way, it was a terrific run for a series.

Yep, they tried to get rid of Bobby and Eames on L&O CI and one year later they are back. But don't think for long though. As to No More Stabler I thought Kenny Stabler had died. Ok, Life long Raiders fan here so that would naturally pop into my head

NNP; this is the last season for CI, and it's only 8 episodes to boot. That decision was made before the season had been filmed. I'm glad Eames and Goren are back, but it would have been nice if they had given some kind of explanation. The last they were seen, Eames had resigned and Goren was fired.

I agree about the No explanation and figured it was last season. I became a big fan of Vincent when I saw him in Men in Black.

I became a big fan of Vincent when I saw him in Men in Black. for an entirely different side of the actor - check him out in this positively awful movie called "Feeling Minnesota", with Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz. he plays Keanu's brother. I worked in a 14-screen theater in college when this came out. it only lasted a week in our place, on the smallest screen. you know I bought it on DVD when I found it in the bargain bin, right? ETA: I'm referring to Vincent D'Onofrio here....not Christopher Meloni.

he's one of those actors who is everywhere. two of my favorites with him are wet hot american summer and harold and kumar go to white castle (far superior to the second one).
i, for one, am glad for these movies because they help erase the seriously disturbing images of him from oz.
