What do you do now? What would you choose if you could turn back time?
I'm a hospital administrator . I think construction management would be cool and rewarding. Not sure if women have been fully accepted in this environment though.
How about you?

I'm an attorney.
I am very interested in the sociology of advertising - similar to what WWBG posted in his thread - and if I could have a do-over, I might go into the advertising field - not designing, necessarily, but figuring out the best ways to target a certain group, marketing, etc.

I would LOVE to be an architect. I probably could have gotten through those math and physics courses if I didn't have such a defeatist attitude towards math/science.

I was a tax accountant for 25 years, a computer techie for about 10 years. I hated tax accounting, but it paid well.
If I were to do it again, I would probably learn computer programming. I've seen so many bad programs, I know I can do better!

I'm a medical editor.
I think I'd be happy as an interior designer.

I'm an electrician and single mom. I'm thinking SAHW/SAHM sounds pretty darn good right now. I was going to be an optometrist or ophthalmologist and that's something I'd still love to have been able to do (financing college and having a kid right after high school were involved in my detour).

Anything to do with books. Selling, editing, writing, binding etc. I actually work with "books" now but not the ones I mean. I am an accountant.

Accountant => auto mechanic.
There can be something almost magical about fixing things that don't work. And a self employed mechanic can make as much as most highly experienced accountants.

I retired recently and was a nurse. My dream job would have been interior designer to wealthy people.

I don't know. Would it make money? There is a small cafe downtown that has changed hands several times. And, i live in a small town so not sure it would really get enough business to be profitable. Coffee shops can be very profitable, if you do it right. Having a good staff is key, as is paying attention to design, ambiance, etc. You do have to be careful about your food offerings, as that's an easy way to lose money if you're not careful. Many people who open cafes/restaurants make tons of mistakes, because they lack work experience in the food/retail business, or because they simply don't have the attention to detail that's required to make it a success. That's part of why so many of those businesses go under.

I'm not really the entrepreneur type, but I think you could make good money owning laundromats and bars.

I'd do something wayyyyy different.
I've always had a heart for special needs kids. And there is a shortage here of qualified therapists, so maybe I'd do speech therapy. Or maybe music therapy. Something to help those kids.
Or, maybe I'd chuck everything & move wayyyy out in the country. Operate an organic farm. ;D

There is a reason for that.
.
And that's the reason.
After spending 10 years of my youth working in restaurants, I concluded that the work schedule sucks and the pay is marginal. Even when you are the owner.
Small cafe probably = open at 6:00 AM, close at 8:00 PM. So you bought yourself a 5 to 9 job, not a 9 to 5 job. You up for that? I'm going to make the assumption that the cafe is open seven days a week and all holidays except Christmas and Thanksgiving. You up for that? According to Restaurant Business magazine, the typical profit margin for restaurants is 1% - 2% of sales. You up for that? There is a fair chance that you will be called on to bail one of your staff out of jail every couple of years. You up for that? There is a high probability that your staff will steal cash from the till, steal the most expensive food you buy, or feed their friends/family for free. You up for that? You will be called on to mediate bickering between members of your staff. You up for that?
If you're up for that, welcome to the glamorous world of food service. Maybe you'll be the next Food Network Star.

I really liked going from trial attorney to happy housewife. But I wouldn't mind becoming a registered vet tech, either.

Hmmm. At this point I'd probably do chemical engineering again. And I like pharma. Ask me again in 5 years when my job has been outsourced to China or India.

Now: General Practice lawyer.
Dream: Grateful Dead groupie. Or a sports trainer, or a groundskeeper for a professional baseball team.

Would not change a thing. But if we're dreaming here I'd like to have been a professional football player.
