Can someone explain (if there IS an explanation) why is that after Passover and Easter unlike any other holidays food business is down like if it is not going to ever get better?
Same thing happenning year after year and no one seems to know why. I am calling to NY to order foods from my suppliers and they are saying the same thing. SLOOOOOOOW like you want to bite somebody just for entertainment!!!
Any thoughts?

I can't answer on a macro level, but I personally have 6 ham dinners left over in the freezer from this easter.

I don't know about other folks, but I've been eating out a bit more recently. It's tempting to use the first couple of weeks of nice weather to go sit outside and enjoy a meal at some of the local restaurants.

Some people might overbuy for holidays then want to control spending to make up for it. They might have extra fruits and veggies they served but didn't get eaten or they didn't serve them all. I might for example buy 3 grocery bags of veggies for a raw veggie platter maybe 2-3 cauliflowers and other things then only use one platter full to serve. The excess might be frozen if it is good to freeze and the others like cucumbers be eaten fresh. The trimmings from them like the stocks of broccoli might have gone in salads or the soup pot. Some things keep for weeks like jicama so I might be eating leftovers for more than a single week then tired of veggies for a few days. Then using up leftover frozen mushrooms and other things to make freezer space.

I noticed that this year too. Sales for the three days after Easter were terrible.
Blame it on the excess of ham and shortage of chametz. After seven or eight days of eggs and potatoes, I'd be ravenous for baked goods and beer. I'd probably skip the veggies for a while in order to buy brownies and flour again.

I'm with haapai on that. I only eat carbs at breakfast, and I really got tired of matzoh by about Day 4. You can only dress it up so many ways. And much extra produce can be frozen, so you might not go out and buy more right away after the holidays.
Also, I have not seen a lot of produce bargains. We're in betweeen seasons now: the winter vegetables are done, but the summer stuff is not in yet.
Hey Loony, good to see you!

Plus swimsuit season will shortly be upon us, so people may just be eating less so they fit into last year's summer clothes.

Doesn't anyone here has this software that analyzing each year and tells you that 'third week of the February is the worse for sales of...' I don't have it. Too expensive. Hey Nancy! How is life?

Such software would be of limited use around the migrating holidays.

Software would be using a calendar that reflects holidays every year. Even if it is migrating one. This is why it is expensive software. I use to be a programmer so I assure you about it as a pro!

I wish my company had hired you. For years we used to dread Easter. It was the single worst holiday to prepare for and recover from. I always suspected that the cut-rate programmers had failed to account for the movement of the holiday.
But this year's ordering seems better than normal. Maybe they finally hired someone who knew what they were doing.
